Should I sell my M1A for a NR AR-10?

I'm torn between if I should keep my LRB M1A or if I should sell it and get one of those canadian built NR AR-10s.

I have the M-21 with the scope rail built right into the receiver, so easy of mounting optics is not really a huge concern.

I am not an enthusiasts of the platform by any means, although i do really like it. As far as accuracy goes, If I wanted a sub moa rifle i would get a bolt gun, as long as I can consistently hit a pie plate at 300 yards thats plenty good for me.

Would you recommend just keeping my LRB or is the AR-10 really a big improvement? I am kind of skeptical about buying untested canadian built rifles, I had a bad experience with the modern hunter. I got rid of the modern hunter to buy the LRB because that seemed like the best NR option in 308 available at the time.

Lrb m1a is keeper !!!
Keep it and buy a stag

In my opinion... if you get a top class firearm, it goes on the never ever ever sell list

I agree, I should do it before C-71, has that passed yet? I'm kind of out of the loop

I would buy a stag 10 & decide later which one I keep.
At the end I would keep both.
With the stag10 you have all the options you want for barrel choice.

The current market for M14/M1A type rifles has fell thru the floor recently so this would be my first consideration if I was to part with either of my LRB custom builds. I don't see getting fair value at this time so I would opt to keep what I have.
Then there is the comparison between the two platforms..... not so much is one better than the other (ar-10 vs m14) because we could have that debate forever and make no progress.
Comparison would be in accuracy potential …. this isn't cut and dry and depends on components and build quality but I "think" AR-10 rifles are made accurate by the barrel that is chosen whereas the M14 has many components that affect accuracy.
Next would be weight and ergonomics and it is possible to build out an ultra light AR-10 type rifle in a package that would be easier to assemble versus weight trimming and building an M14 to be as light as possible. I've tried and it would still put it heavier than the lightest option for an AR-10 style rifle.
The M14 iron sights are exceptional and I am quite fond of them over anything else, especially when I've used them for open sight hunting.
Next would be maintenance and I think.... my personal opinion only, is the M14 is easier to maintain if one has the common tools related to the platform. Grease it and go....
I think the M14 is a more rugged platform as well , not that we are throwing the things on the ground or anything LOL
So all these things considered and especially because no one is going to pay me what I would ask for my two custom build LRB rifles ….. I will happily keep them :)

Couldn't resist the NR AR-10 type offerings and passed on the modern hunter ……. just not comfortable with the price tag...… passed on the bcl-102 ……. jumped on the stag-10 like a kid on candy LOL
will probably be my last firearm purchase in Canada so what the hell.

I was considering buying a stag10 lower and slowly build it. That way you are safe from C71 and it wont cost a huge amount to get started

That way you can keep your M1A and end up with both in the long run

Thats actually a really good idea. thanks for that!

I had my Stag 10 .308 out for the first time this past weekend. I hate to say it, but I can already feel my love for my M1A fading. The Stag is just as accurate and far more comfortable to shoot than my M1A.

I have two stag 10 one in 6.5 creedmor and a lefty in 308, both with match barrels, the 6.5 is a heavy beast due to the barrel but very accurate and extremely fun to shoot, i haven't owned and LRB but i did have a national match with a stainless barrel and it was a great rifle but i am one to tinker and it didn't need tinkering it was complete and pretty perfect out of the box, i couldn't handle it haha i sold it, i would keep the lrb and build a stag in whatever flavor you want and with whatever parts you like, the out of the box stags can always use aftermarket parts and while easy to sell you will have to as you upgrade so a build is always a better more fun option just my $.02

Basically the consensus seems to be that the STAG 10 is a better gun in basically every way that it can be a better gun, but may as well get both. I can certainly live with this advice! haha

Does anyone know any shops that are currently stocking NR lower receivers?
