Looking at 9.3 Mauser barrel on tradeexcanada, is ER shaw barrel worth the extra $

Id take the zastava for 169.
I bought one in 458 and reamed it to 460. The rifling looks awesome. The only issue i can find and its none issue is the under cut in the barrel threads has some chatter marks.

Zastava make good barrels, have a 7x57 and 7x64 and both shoot very well.
I got a Shaw barrel back before the Z's were available, put it on a surplus German 98 action, shoots very well, it's a heavier profile, and I still haven't decided on length yet, the 26" pipe gives impressive velocity, but it's a touch too long...might chop to 20 or 22". It doesn't foul hardly at all so the bore is well done, they are good quality barrels. I guess it depends if you want a heavier profile or not, that's pretty much where the difference is between them.

Thanks for all the great info. Did you guys install the barrels yourselves or bring to gunsmith? Wondering what else may need to be done besides final polishing and bluing. I’ve never done a barrel install but it sounds like these are pretty straight forward

IIRC those 9.3 barrels are quite slender at the muzzle, something like .560. Some of the calibers have fairly slow twist rates as well. Just something to be aware of. I am hoping for a 7x57 barrel, wish it had a quicker twist though!

Need a finishing reamer. Gunsmithing job.

The two barrels are not identical, although both have been stated as good shooters.

Like Hitzy, I have the E.R. Shaw barrel and it's longer (26"), and has a heavier profile than the Zastava, both of which are enough for me to prefer the E.R. Shaw. The E.R. Shaw barrel has a 1:13 twist which provides plenty of twist for 320 gr bullets. I don't know what the twist is on the Zastava - that's a question for Tradex.
