Hey all :D
I would like some info regarding barrel porting.
Is it worth doing, performance wise, to a Norinco 1911A1-C?
What's considered to be better for the 1911A1-C: V10 or V8 porting?

All input welcome :)

Thanx,

If you have the money, do what you want , but Porting a stock Commander style NORINCO is like putting a turbo charger on a YUGO, kind of cool but it won't change the performance by much and it is still a NORINCO 1911-C only you have spent another $200 or $300 on it. Now if you are starting with a bare FULL SIZE NORINCO FRAME and putting all aftermarket parts on it and making a race gun, PORTING or putting on a COMPENSATOR is probably necessary to be competitive..

Can't a Commander be a race gun?
I don't know, I'm a noob
But I can port it myself though, I would do it due to muzzle rise.
Thanx.

My Nork 1911 frame wears a Schuemann 4 port Commander barrel nestled inside a custom Caspian slide. Reduces muzzle flip and recoil down to mild 38 special levels. Makes it an absolute pussy cat to shoot with stiff loads.

Porting a pistol is a pain. The slide and the barrel has to be machined. It's less fuss to put on a compensator that replaces the bushing. It will need fitting though.

I don't know what v8 or v10 porting is :?: but, I do own a magnaported S&W. Reduces felt recoil and muzzle-flip. Looks cool on a .45 as well - not as ugly as a big honk'in comp stuck on the end of your barrel

I have no problem with the original guide rod in my nork, but if you want to prevent binding of the spring, some people go with a one piece setup.

V8 or V10 is used used since there are either 4 or 5 holes, there can be more as I have seen up to 8  , drilled into each side of the barrel and thus looks like a V8 or V10 engine.
I think I'm gonna do it over the holidays, if I have the time. :?

Hi, I used aFull profile Clarke Pin Busyer comp on my 1911,makes a very big
difference to push, flip and consequently accuracy. I also put in a ramped barrel. I' m leary of the barrel bushing comp. Started wiith a Witchita years
ago and after 700+ rds, the locling channel on frame started to split. Had to
replace Frame...

When they port barrels they put the ports in with EDM machining, they don't drill them. If you drill, your going to have burrs inside that barrel that are going to foul like mad, and shave whatever bullet you shoot thourgh it, kill accuracy goodbye.....

Either that or re-profile and clean the grooves...

V8 and V10 are Springfield terms... Not everybody port at a 60 or 90 degrees...They don't necessarily use holes either... it can be slots...

Since the government forces me to put longer barrels in short guns might as well port them..

look at this beast
