I think paranoia drives 99% of the firearms industry. Look at how almost every AR15 is sold out everywhere right now. Even I have to admit, the only reason I bought my T97 & Stag-10 was due to paranoia and I've bought a few AR15 lowers in fear of a prohib turn only to sell them a couple months later when the hysteria dies down.
It doesn't make any sense to buy one strictly for hunting right now. If they get reclassified to anything other than NR, you won't be able to use them for hunting anyway. The only way you will be able to use a 308 semi for hunting is if it remains classified as NR in which case you will be able to buy one in the future. Nothing wrong with buying one now though...I have been tempted by the Stag 10 for deer and moose hunting.

As soon as C71 becomes law is when the reclassifcation will start. No OIC required, no banning, just reclassification of anything that they think looks scary.

met with my MP's underling this morning to talk about a few issues I'm concerned about. A text was made to Cathy Mcleod and even though she is in Ottawa right now, she called for a conference chat minutes after the text was sent. She promised real , immediate action on the issue I raised and a means to follow up with her in the coming weeks directly. I also mentioned firearms, hunting, Metis Rights in BC (or lack thereof) and my desire to have a face to face so she could counsel me on how to go forward, considering Andrew Scheer, her boss, says he will repeal C-71 and it's provisions. I told her I believe the liberal party is illegally in power due to their transgressions and I will not respect or follow any law made by crimminals….. even ones with majority governments. I put myself at the disposal of the party locally and have a follow up meeting in her office here in my town as soon as she is back from Ottawa. She told me that every conservative MP is being pounded by constituents who want Trudeau and his entire caucus kicked off parliament hill and that the firearms measures, that she does not support, are a "very" hot topic with correspondents as well and the majority of folks are speaking in broad terms of non compliance.

Nope. The plan is to get re-elected. Making any move before the election could affect that. Bill Blair's interview with the Globe and Mail basically confirmed they are running the election on a black rifle ban & confiscation in order to get the urban soccer mom/soy boy sjw vote.
