140 or 180 grain for black bears?

Hey MD, how did you make out and what did you shoot that bear with ??
Aside from using a gun that is.
140 or 180 brand a selection of bullet too ?

Three days out and one very fast bear spotted.

Then we found out from a road-builder guy that a large group of about 30 guys with an associated number of trucks and quads from a Vancouver hunting club had hunted the area hard over the May long weekend. Until then we couldn't figure out why there were no bears or sign at the numerous thick patches of clover under the power lines and along the road sides on the side spurs.

Take the rifle that you feel you can shoot the best!

This, I own craps loads of purpose specific caliber guns. I often take them out for sheets and giggles but if on a hunt for something I am really interested in whether its woodchuck, elk or bear I always seem to gravitate towards my laser which is currently a Sauer using cup and core 30 06 hand loaded with love. In the very least if the animal walks away I know it wasn't the fault of the gun or ammo.

I finally found my little BBQ boar... it went down to my Ruger M77 MKII .358 Win carbine and a 200 grain RCL. Dropped straight down with zero flinching. I don't like the TSX for the .358 Win, standard cup and core bullets are right in it's wheelhouse... the TSX is better in the fast .35's. The 225 Partition is a good bullet if you are loading to MAX, but at moderate speeds, the 200 RCL, H-SP and Speer HC are just about perfect.

OP, I kind of like your .280 over the .300 WM, but of course both will work just fine.

Congratulations , a Real Nice looking bear , and some Great eating !! ~~~
