Good Day,

Have shot many 20" barreled .308 wins and about the same amount of 22" barreled 30-06 with no complaints or inconvience with regards to recoil or loudness.
Hear time and time again that 20" barreled 30-06 have an incredible increase in muzzle blast, recoil and noise.
Puzzled then why so many manufacturers continue to produce shorter barreled 30-06 rifles and for myself there is the convienience of keeping same caliber as my other rifle in more of a brush gun configuration.

Is a 20" barreled 30-06 that nasty?

I have both a tikka t3x lite stainless with a 22.4" barrel and a t3x battue with a 20" barrel. Both are set up very much alike and both are in 30-06. Both shoot the same ammo. There's no noticeable difference in either recoil or bark to them.

I had a Rem 760 carbine w/18.5" tube long back. I found it handy to carry and it shot decent enough with 220 gr RN loads. The bugger didn't seem to kick or bark any worse than my Rem Mohawk 308 with 180 grainers.

I have a Ruger M77 RSI .30-06Sprg with an 18 1/2" barrel that shoots 1MOA @ 200M using Remington CoreLokt 180gr PSP factory loads. It has quite a bark, but,I don't notice any more recoil than other rifles I have of the same caliber with 22" and 24" barrels.

That sounds like a handy gun. I think i will cut mine to 18". I hunt in bushy areas alot. I am not concerned about recoil or muzzle blast. 30-06 recoil is pretty minimal.

I have had a couple Ruger M77-RL MKII 20" rifles in .30/06 and a buddy still has one... I loaded them up with 60.0 grains RL-22 with 165's and even though they are light rifles, the recoil and blast is child's play... no truth to them being obnoxious.
