Good ammo for Colt LE 6920?

I'm new to AR, other than a BCL 102 which I sold. I bought one for obvious reasons 9 days ago-Colt LE 6920 no furniture. Still waiting on transfer to be complete.

I will plink with cheap NATO 55 grain at 50 yards etc. But will use it out to distance as well. And will reload for more accurate loads.

Just wondering from anyone who has experience with the 6920 what bullet weights it will like most? I would like to at least order a bit of factory ammo by morning that will work decent out to a few hundred yards.

I'm curious to see what responses you get, I'm in the same boat, just bought a 6920 as well for the same reasons and am brand new to the AR platform.

I want to buy a bunch of reloading components for it but have held off so far just because I'm not quite sure what might be the best bullet weight for the barrel twist. I want to keep costs down so I'm think bulk FMJ type bullets will be what I go with, and of those it seems likes 55gr and 62gr are the most common. I'm leaning towards the 62gr bullets as.they seem to be a better fit with the 1:7 barrel twist but I'm hoping some more experienced AR users will chime in shortly and verify that.
 
Definitely 62 grain will get you out a little farther. I believe the 1:7 twist is for stabilizing heavier tracer rounds. I'm more wondering about bullets heavier than 62 grains. Holding off on reloading components myself until I know more.
 
I’m using a 6921 upper in one of my ARs (14.5” instead of the 6920’s 16”) and it loves American eagle 55g. Not a single hiccup, FTE or FTF.
 
M855 and m193 will shoot minute of man groups all day. If you want better at a lot more money the mk262 will shoot tighter.

The 55 grain stuff will be fine the 62 a bit better. Buy bulk from quality ammo makes. Shoot lots. Enjoy.
 
I guess I should be more specific. My 6920 will shoot usually within 50-300M.

I shoot at Connaught weekly and have up to 900M on Monday nights. Not that I will be shooting 900 with a Mil spec AR, but would like to push it as much as possible-just because.

Should I be using something heavier than 62 grain to get out to farther distance?
 
Guess I will grab some factory of all those weights haha. See what happens. Any brand of factory ammo brass to avoid for reload?
 
I use Hornady 55g. FMJ, 25.0 g. of Tac and CCI 400 primers. Inexpensive load that does 1.25 Iin. @ 100 and 2.5 @ 200 in my 6920 with eotech.
 
I put 1000 or so 55gr AE through my 6920 before I started reloading for it. They shot about 2 MOA. I reload for it now with 62gr FMJBTs with 25.5gr of BLC-2. In load dev with a 10x optic it shot about 1 MOA 5rd groups. With the 3x Elcan that lives on that rifle it'll reliably shoot sub 2 MOA. I've taken it out to 470 yards with hits on a 2/3 IPSC plate. I've been meaning to work up a load for it with 75gr BTHPs but have been too busy with other guns.
 
So far, I only fired some Federal/American Eagle 62gr Green tip ammo in my 6920 and it shoots great !

I will test different ammo during the summer. It could be nice if it also love a little bit cheaper ammo for plinking.

Is the Federal AE brass decent to reload with?
 
Newb to AR reloading questions.

I assume everyone is reloading 223 brass and not 556?

And how far should I bump my shoulders on a gas semi AR?

My 6920 eats everything. I really haven’t found anything it doesn’t shoot well. From the 40grn FBHP Varmageddons to 77 grain Matchkings. And good to excellent accuracy with it all. But if I had to choose one, the 69 grn Matchking is it.

I primarily reload IVI brass as it’s simply wonderful once you take the crimp out.

The Federal brass is decent to reload with. I'm at 4 reloads with some and have pitched a few for split necks but expected to at this point.
