How is everyone's spring bear going?

I made it out to BC from Ontario to hunt with my dad and brothers. 4 bears taken in total, I took a medium colour phase with a gorgeous thick coat. My brother took 2 great Jet blacks, and his brother in law took a larger colour phase as well. It was a great trip!

Reminder that the new system calls for MANDATORY reporting for us Ontario people. I understand they want both a spring, and a fall bear report, if you bought your license in time for the spring hunt.
Penalty apparently is no license next year, and/or possible fines.
regs said:
Requirements: All hunters that purchase or are issued a tag to hunt moose, elk, deer, bear, wild turkey and wolf/coyote (in WMUs where a tag is required) must complete a hunter report. You are required to complete a hunter report even if you did not participate in the hunt or harvest an animal. Hunters who fail to report or who provide false or misleading information are subject to penalties, including fines and possible restrictions on the ability to purchase a licence or tag the following year. The new automatic licence penalties are being phased in to give hunters the opportunity to become familiar with the new requirements and the reporting service.
Resident hunters issued a bear tag on or before June 15 must submit a spring and a fall report. Hunters issued a tag after June 15 must submit a fall report only
Spring Resident Black Bear Hunter Report deadline June 29, 2019

Me, I didn't go out much, got busy here, so didn't see anything.

Went for a quick day trip May 18th saw a ton of sign and one shooter but buggered off before we could get a shot. Went for an overnight this past weekend and got a nice 6’ as we were basically on our way home.
Just finished cutting up the last of it and getting it in the freezer! Can’t wait to get some sausage ground.

Looks like a fantastic trip... congrats on a great time spent with family doing what you love to do... nice job on the pictures too! :)

I passed on a couple in the 200lb range last week. I’m heading out Friday and getting serious. Looking for a bigger fella. Lots of sign at the bait.

Mid May southern BC bear.
Biggest of my 3 to date, all have been within 1km of each other in same valley, all same color and within 60lbs of each other from smallest to bigger.

Saving one tag for fall to stock back up on tallow but have seen beauties !

do not need bear hunting after that. bottom or surface rig?....

They are still pretty deep. Caught one at 130 feet.

Surface temp is still less than 40F, so things will be changing pretty quick.

Yikes! That is a whopper, Ted... no Lakers that big around here, 15 pounds is the biggest I have caught.

Forty-four inches, probably 40 pounds or thereabouts. Out of the water for less than a minute, two pictures, then released safe and sound after recovering beside the canoe.

now that's an impressive yukon/northern BC laker . How are you getting the freighter to slow troll? I always found my freight to be a
little quick trolling. just about to pull the trigger on another HB frighter with a 20hp suzuki
