Why hasn't anybody in Canada produced an M-LOK compatible handguard for the VZ 58/CZ 858?

Considering the lengths people go to to hack together Magpul handguards and VZ 58s I'd think there would be a pretty big market for one. Especially in Canada where the VZ 58 and the VZ 858 are popular.

Pics of some M-LOK and Keymod prototypes I found to better illustrate how cool I think one would be:

There are a few European guys making them. It's mostly small operations. A Canadian manufacturer (I forget who) did some prototypes and everyone got excited, but the project got canned unfortunately.

In general, nobody wants to cater to the Canadian market. Even Canadians.

I think the huge one is just cost when made it was usually what $300+ aluminum build It use to be big I’m pretty sure but I think what eventually killed it was the whole prohib thing that happened to the 858 awhile back before overturned then price increase on the rifle itself and another prohib with c71 looming. It sucks really cuz I’m one of the guys who came in late to the 858/58 party so parts and handguard of the like are fairly scarce now and hard to find. Realistically it’s much cheaper for your average joe to get a fab defence or magpul handguard to adapt it to the vz rather than go on a treasure hunt for an expensive aluminum or steel handguard

That's pretty much the only option if you want something that looks nice and doesn't require any modding. Gundocthor Keymod Handguard, made in Czech Republic. But if you want one, have your google translate ready as their website doesn't have an english option.

not always. i just received VZ58 furniture from czech rep and no duty. yippie!!!

Depends if it is a store or private shipment, i guess.

My cheap soft armor became not so cheap when i had to pay the duty. They did invoice total + duty + gst/pst.

Ebay buys on the other hand did not get any.

I had an aluminum quadrail for one of mine years ago, but an mlok one would have been nicer. Guess it doesn't matter anymore, as I sold the gun. I think I still have the quadrail somewhere in one of my parts drawers.

from a store. maybe it has something to do with value. mine was too small to bother collecting.

I would love to build some, but am not too keen on losing money due to possible bans and a diminishing interest in people accessorizing their rifles.

Lets hope we get a majority CPC government in the fall and some positive actions with respect to firearms issues.

I just picked the handguards up from the post office today, there wasn't any extra fees so the total cost to my door was $211 CAD.

My initial impressions are very positive, this thing is solidly built and locks up tight on the receiver with no wiggle after install. I especially like that I can get my support hand grip further forward allowing me to present the rifle quicker. I also mounted a BCM foregrip and QD mount on several points without any issues. As for cons, it is a bit heavier than the plastic handguards, and the finish is a bit rough in some places. Machining marks don't bother me, but they are present.

Overall, I'd say it's definitely worth the money.

i would agree on the HG but is the optic set up worth it? the lower rail is $200, not including the mount and the upper rail.
