....

I'm going to jump in out of the gate and say that for the money you are willing to spend, you're going to get good glass.

But keep in mind that no scope is perfect, regardless of cost and all have failed in the heat of competition... So make sure you trust the warranty.

Guys will jump in here and say my brand X scope has never failed... I can tell you this... at the World F_Class Championship in Ottawa.. all top brands of scopes were well represented in the scoped failed department. If you were there, you heard about it.

I would focus on features, like reticle.

Today, many of the tactical PRS style scopes are so over loaded with hash marks that you cant spot the vapor trail through the picket fence.

If you can find a scope with discreate markings you will be better served... Particularly on the vertical above center. I'd like to find a scope with MIL dots on the vertical up from center, but hash marks on the other 3.

With an FFP scope, you can dial down the magnification to reduce the reticle thickness and that will help you spot the vapor trail even if the reticle is a little over done.

So this brings us to magnification...

If the high end of your scope magnification is what you actually want to shoot at, the reticle will be too thick and you will need to dial down to the reticle fatness you like. Then you are running at less than ideal zoom... For this reason, you actually need more magnification than you intend to run at, so that the reticle thickness will be just right at the zoom level you want to use.

So having said all that, makes it hard to order a scope sight unseen, so I hope you can get touchy feely with whatever you have in mind.

Next is the importance of an illuminated reticle...

In an SFP scope I never cared for illumination, but in FFP I demand it.

As the reticle gets finer when you zoom out, it gets harder to see, but turn the illumination on and it's still usable.

Just picked up a Gen. 1 Milspec Remington 700 in .308 from a fine fellow GCN'er, thank you sir.

Really don't need another .308/700 but Remington seems to have gotten it mostly right with this rifle except for the x-mark trigger as we all know, already purchased a new one for it.

upgrades/additions are:
- Trigger Tech Special
- Seekins 20 moa rail
- ATRS rings
- Gre-tan firing pin/shroud
- probably end up bedding it eventually.

This guy is going to be used for long range target 1,000-1,200 (long for a .308 anyway)

Looking for new glass. Not opposed to spending 3500-4000 on a Minox or the like. Just enquiring what others running this rifle or similar are using. Maybe there's something great I'm not aware of in the 1500-2000 price range.

Let's see some pics of your Gen. 1 rigs please.

Thanks, looking forward to some scope ideas.

The Minox ZP5 5-25x56 is an amazing choice if it fits the bill :)

I bought a used 308 5R mil-spec barrel to put on my burnt out 243 varmint. Wow! What a great barrel. No action work done at all and it shoots outstanding. These rifles are a great set-up by Remington. I don't know if the Gen 2 is as good of a rifle as the Gen 1 but I like the added 6.5 CM to the line up.

Wow Aprilia Man, that's quite the transformation.

Those JAE stocks are about as much as the rifle. Is that a different barrel you're running ? What scope & reticle is that ?
Thanks for the pictures.

The only factory part left is the whole action assembly. The rest have been replaced. Running a 26" Benchmark Barrel MTU Contour. Scope is a Sightron 10-50x60 LRMOA.

The rifle can hold it's own in capable hands. Not so sure about the owner :(

If you have the money I would look at the Nightforce atacr it's on the upper end of your budget but an excellent scope.

If your looking for value the Vortex gen2 razor and Delta stryker offer a lot of scope for the money

Depending on where your located call Hirsch Precision or Insite Arms both are great to deal with. Let them know your budget and what you want to do with the scope and they can go over options with you

If it’s in your budget get a Nightforce with a Mil-XT in mil amazing scope that what I would go for my next scope. I’m currently running gen2 razors on my Prs rigs nothing wrong with them great glass and ret but my new favourite is that mil-xt and if I had more money to spend I would be going with that scope and ret combo.
