My 22 shoots 1/2" groups at 50 yards/meters all day! Really? Prove it!

I very recently got this new-to-me rifle. It came in a 3P stock so I bought a BR stock for it. It has the 2013 receiver but it's not simply a 2013. It may look "unusual" so a little background may be appropriate.

Apparently Anschutz makes several variations using this receiver, including the standard 2013 with a heavy 69cm barrel and the 2007 with the 66cm barrel. The 2013 model came out in the early 1990s, and one of the variations then available was the 2013/500A, which has a 50cm barrel and a barrel/sight extension (a bloop tube) with a barrel weight. In fact, the first Anschutz BR 50 was based on this particular barreled action, and it came with a 500mm (or 50cm) barrel and a barrel weight. An Anschutz BR 50-type stock came with it and it had an adjustable cheek piece. Below is a description from 1995.



The model seen for sale at Canadian dealers is typically the 2013 BR 50, the model with the heavy 69cm barrel. Mine is a little different. It has the 50cm barrel. It's an Anschutz 2013/500A BR 50. Here's a more contemporary Anschutz portrait of the model.



Anyway, mine came in this week and today I had my first chance to try it out.




I shot Center X at 57 yards. The scope is a T36.




Left to right: .284, .291, .254, .286, .335" Average: .290"

I'm thinking that as I shoot this rifle a little more, I might do a little better.

I have the Anschutz BR50 like in the b/w pic. But mine has a walnut stock.

That's certainly a nice set up, Glenn - I'm impressed at the consistency of those groups - Everything going into the same spot - You have a good barrel there! I'd be interested to know if it will shoot as well with the sight extension removed.

Congratulations. That's very nice shooting. You may have mixed up sizes for groups 3 and 4, as 3 looks bigger than 4. In any case those are very good results with a great looking rifle.

I don't want anybody to think that I am endorsing the SK Flatnose Match, frankly I struggled with it.

I prefer the SK Rifle Match. It seems more 'consistent'.

The Flatnose bullets seem to want to have the occasional bullet wander. I hesitate to call them 'flyers'.

I have been following a related thread on these pages regarding rimfire rifle cleaning and have scrubbed the bore as Glenn has suggested, and will try again next week. I usually just pass a Ballistol wet patch through the bore and wipe off the bolt and barrel prior to retiring the rifle for the day. Perhaps that was not enough.

And the can of OFF was noticed in the picture also which makes the groupings that much better knowing you had "company" buzzing around while you were concentrating.

Didn't see a Remington 597 on the list so I gave it a go today. Tried twice and got skunked on both groups of 5. Going to try again on Wednesday as I barely missed it. Remington 597, CCI standard velocity, Bushnell fixed 10x scope, shooting from a crappy Caldwell front and rear bag.

Look a little closer But, there is room yet for the first factory barreled 597, and with some ammo a little than CCI, yours looks like a good candidate.

Tried again this morning. Same setup as before, bone stock Remington 597, CCI standard velocity, Bushnell fixed 10x scope, Caldwell front and rear bags with a tactical towel under the front bag.

Group sizes: 0.414 , 0.359 , 0.188 , 0.124 , 0.492
Average was 0.315
