Always wanted one of these neat little conversions, Never seen one come up for sale so I think I’ll make my own! Always wanted a no.1 mkIII tanker.
The perfect base rifle sporter came up yesterday so I grabbed it, barrel looks to have been shortened and front sight re attached, so the “hard” work is already done,
As you can see in the photo it will need a new butt stock as well but I think I have that covered in the parts drawer.
I have a sporterized Forend and part of some top wood for a previous sporter restoration I plan to utilize, you can see the wood Iam talking about in the second photo.
My plan is to cut the wood where the barrel band would go and attach some new pieces possibly cut from the stock the rifle is coming in, the bottom should be easier that the top, it will require a ton of sanding and some inletting for the nose cap/bay lug which I’ve never attempted before.
I’ll need to buy a new top wood rear piece which seem easy enough to find.
A fellow CGN member has a nice metal parts kit for sale that I will most likely purchase as well.
Has anyone made their own tanker before?
Any tips or tricks is appropriated!
And feel free to post photos of yours! Be it a no1 or no4
Project rifle that is coming is the bottom one in this photo
And is this photo you can see the wood I’ll be trying to utilize, the top rear was used in the restoration.
