Hello gents, been quite a few years since I sold my last 223 so I decided I needed another for some reason and picked up an American ranch.
Little light for wolves here in BC but I was wondering if anyone has tried out the federal premium in 60 grain nolser partition on one of these big dogs and what the results were?

Having fun so far with the thing just plinking targets with some cheap fmj.

May want to double check our BC regulations as to whether or not wolves are considered big game; if so I believe you need to go bigger than 22 cal to be legal. I do know that you definitely do not want to shoot at them with fmj's, as that is not legal for hunting with in BC.

I shoot coyotes mostly with .22 cal certifies, but for wolves I like 6mm Rem with 90 grain NBT's and .257 Roberts with 115 grain NBT's... always appreciated a little extra, but not too much.

A .223 will certainly put down wolves, even better if you are using a deer rated bullet like the 60gr Partiton. All the Barnes TSX/TTSX are good deer choices and good wolf choices too. Injured wolves bring int he rest of the pack, too, so if you nail one and he gives off a howl, yap or whimper or two, get ready for more action.

Yes wounding wolves is also great for going on long hikes through miles of cut blocks, blow down and creek bottoms.
I would shoot one with a 223 but not if I had something a bit bigger.

That's what happens when you don't use enough gun. Not talking coyotes here. :(

Grizz

Gonna give it a try gatehouse thanks for the input.
Chances are i'll never get a chance to shoot one because everytime I see them the damn things are gone like a flash. Going up in the helicopter to drop some supplies at a lake near me on Friday so gonna keep the eyes open to see what's around.

I've been very impressed with Nosler's 64 gr solid base bonded bullet. I haven't compared the SBB's terminal performance with the 60 gr Partition yet, but it shoots much better in my rifle, a stock 1:12 CZ-527, and they come in boxes of 100 instead of 50.
