Bedding compound

Marine-Tex gray, boating supply places. They also make it in white but I haven't tried that one.

If it's for a budget build, there's JB Weld but let it sit for an hour or two after mixing so it's more like putty and won't run on you.

When I can find it I use acraglass steelbed. Very similar to deacon steel but in a smaller quantity, good for about 4 rifles.

Devcon titanium found a bunch on a ackland branch closing sale so I bought it all. Kiwi neutral shoe polish for release agent and warm water to clean the release agent off after the job is complete.

Keep an eye on the “use by” date.... Devcon isn’t joking with that date, in my experience, and usually hardens before that date, FYI

I got a REALLY good deal a case of 10110 plastic steel (12 units, 1 pound each) once, and the last 6 or 7 were useless by the time I got around to using them. Lesson learned, I buy it by the pound and never more than 2 at a time....

Next time that happens just set the can in a basin or container of hot water for an hour. Presto, you have your epoxy back!

Well crap! I threw away some Devon aluminum because it was solidified in the can. Not cheap stuff to toss out.

Yup, it works. So does warming it in a microwave.... but don’t use the microwave.... use a sink of hot water! But it 1/4’s the working time and the finished product is horrid. If I was bedding M700’s with a nice round bottom, no worries. But there’s lots of right angles and square shoulders under a M14 action. With a fresh container it’s a perfect job, first crack. Older “past it’s use by date” Devcon seems to need 2-3 “re-do’s” to get a satisfactory bedding job. Also there’s nothing worse than opening a fresh container and instead of getting 4-6 bedding jobs out of it, only getting one. Each time you warm up that Devcon it gets stiffer each time.
