James..........
i find it very sad that a great team of father and son hunting partners are kept apart because a few years of age.
ive read a lot of thread,s started by your dad,he thinks the world of you..
i hope some day in the near future.
you and dad will host a bunch of hunts to teach guys at your age now to love and respect the arts of a great hunt..
dont give up:wave:
and welcome to being a member of this great forum:D
cheers
Don

joe-nwt,

huntinstuff here: I cant think of anyone we didnt contact (that we found on the web). James is 8yrs old and to be honest, the only place that would take him wanted an additional $5500US for him to "observe". The rest kindly told us he would have to wait (for various reasons) I can see their point to a certain extent......

I know this year has passed us by, but we are gonna start early to find a place for next year.

This was James' first post under his name "LeanMeanHuntinMachine" and it was what he wanted to ask. Thanks

James it is a bad deal. I already gave your Dad the contacts I know of. I might know one other guy who might be able to help. I will get back to ya.

There has to be someone out there. Keep at it!

Welcome to CGN pal!

Noel

I just made a phone call, you missed one outfitter, they said you didn't call them. A message is going up to camp as we speak to find out what their policy is. I'll get back to you.

What about a DIY hunt Randy?

I'm not sure of the regs in the North; whether you need a hunter-host or something...

Maybe some Northern Gunnutz could fix you up?

LMHM,

That is too bad your hunt didn't go as planned.

Don't be too upset,Yer ol'man is a stand up guy and I'm sure he'll be taking you on other hunts very soon

Well that sucks!

Dont fret Lean, I have been hunting with my Dad for over 20 years now. You have plenty of time.

BTW if you guys find someone please let us know as I have a 6 year old who wants to hunt with his dad so much it hurts. (Me more than him:):))

Have you thought about a Lope hunt? I found one in Wyoming that sounds good. Price was under $2,000 including my son.

Good luck you 2. Enjoy each and every hunt together and may you have the same fun I have had with my Dad.

Hey little buddy

I cant believe that no one will allow such a dedicated young hunter along for a caribou hunt . I hunted with young James in some very harsh, cold, wet conditions looking for critters. I cant think of a more dedicated young hunting partner.

I will make some calls for you in the morning James. I didn't have much luck before, but remember, don't ever give up!

The guys that wont take you are just scared that you will show them up, and I bet you would!

This young man is a hunter and can handle most anything thrown in his way

I did contact many outfitters and some I was "referred away from" by others for various reasons...I certainly called all of them that I was referred to or found on the internet. All were cordial and explained their past experiences and I can see it. I would be open to any arrangement, whether it be thru and outfitter or if we had to do it ourselves.

An antelope hunt in Wyoming sounds very interesting......if we cant go for caribou.

But in consolation, James will be going on a 7 day moose/deer hunt this November so it's not like he is locked in his room all season.....but this caribou addiction we have just wont go away.

I was watching a couple hunting DVD's last night, and had a brainstorm.

Why not contact some of the groups that produce these movies, tell them your tale of woe, and see if anyone bites? Maybe Bart Lancaster or the like... make 'em feel like heroes because they were willing to hunt a youngster when others refused.

I think a filmed hunt with a young hunter and his dad would make for great footage...

I like Siverado idea! I was watching this clip on the net, I cant remember where or who it was from but every year they take like 6 kids under the age of 13 or so and they take them hunting (they buy them all gear and they get to keep it all but the guns) But try what Silverado said.

Do you need to goto a outfitter for out of province hunts? Cant you just hook up with another CGN'er and hunt with them? Im sure there is a ton of guys here that would help you out.

Either way whatever you do make sure you send us picks of your SONS first kill lol or if thats already past, send us picks of the hunt(s)

"...wanted an additional $5500US..." That's not unusual. It costs the outfitter to have another mouth there. It'd cost that if it was a wife too.
"...would not be any trouble..." They don't know that. Most won't take kids because of liability issues.

You are absolutely right.
