Looking for some input on both the Ruger RSM 375 H&H or Winchester Model 70 Safari 375 H&H magnum Quality between the two. Which has smoother bolt gun. Any personal options would be appreciated. I'd like to add one of these two to the lineup but cannot decide between the two. I've only owned one Winchester and it was a Model 70 Classic stainless 338 win mag. I've also have owned MANY Ruger's and still have four in the safe. They have ranged from 22-250, 25-06. 270, 30-06, 45 Colt and a hotly loaded 45-70.

I should also add I'm no stranger the 375 have or have had in other multiple platforms. Also If someone knows or a used Winchester Safari 375 LH please pm me.

If all else fails and I can't make up my mind on this I'm just going to roll with one of the new Ruger Hawkeye 9.3x62 Safaris.

Thanks in advance.

Break it down feature by feature and decide what’s important to you:

Mounts: Ruger has integral bases, and came with rings. Winchester is drilled and tapped
Stock: Ruger has Circassian walnut, ebony forend tip with hockey puck pad, winchester American black with decelerator
Bottom metal: both steel, hinged floorplate
Bolt: both crf
Trigger: Ruger is heavy and creepy (but easily reworked), Winchester has their adjustable moa
Safties: both three position, rugers block both the firing pin and trigger, Winchester only the firing pin, but allows for field stripping
Barrels:Ruger has an integral quarter rib, multiple leaf express sights, banded swivel stud, banded front sight. Winchester has banded swivel stud and screwed on front and rear sights.
Metal finish: rsm high polish blued, m70 bead blast blued

The RSM in .375 H&H is definitely nose heavy, the barrel contour is heavier than need be... if you don't mind the weight, the Ruger is a better gun. Smoother? Maybe not, but it won't jam or stick when you need it.

Most of the Ruger M77 rifles I've owned or handled seem to front heavy not an issue. So without hands on with either of these models yet, it sounds like the Winchester is more balanced over the Ruger. Am I correct in thinking this?

Don’t tell that to Buzz Charlton. An RSM just about got him and his client killed.

The story I read is that he never checked the feeding and function of some flat nosed solids he hadn’t used before.

Personally Ruger rifles seem to be hit and miss with accuracy, I had a 25-06 and a 270 laminated that shot like ####, I sent it to a gunsmith for bedding they still shot like ####. I know it happens but all the Winchesters I have owned are far better quality and accuracy.

knowing what i know today and done what i ve done in those days in Africa is two different things. most of the PHs i met and known did not care about what they even feed their rifles with nor the maintenance up to the time.... in those days we were a few using a 460 wea in a mark V ... great rifle certainly but not for the task we did ... a close call that ends well is the one you can talk about ...

RSM are great rifles but a shame they re never been made in left handed version ...

do not know: i bought directly from the factory. easy to deal and smooth transaction.

Thanks, was just wondering if their was any import/export issue ordering from them. I'll send them and email and quiz them. I wouldn't mind trying a set on my No.1 45-70.
