Dominion Arms DA556 M16-Style Rifle with 20 in barrel

I pick up the last one 3 weeks ago. I was looking to add an AR to the count and I saw this one it was in special at 599.00. So I bought it.

The lower appears to be a new CQ-A, just with a fixed buttstock. Rear peep sights and gas tube are a little funky, but I'm sure they function fine. If not, they're cheap parts to replace. For the most part, there doesn't seem to be the proprietary parts problem the old-school CQ311s had. I'll be throwing in a ton of aftermarket bits later, I will update as I go if there's any problems.

It's a struggle, but the rifle will accept MOE handguards without modification.

I won't be able to get to the range for a few weeks, but when I do I'll be testing accuracy at 100 and 200 yards, hopefully with a variety of ammo types.

While I can't comment on the whole rifle, I did buy a 20" "Dominion" barrel in 5.56 X 1:12 rifling (From Canada Ammo) for a build that I did. I was fortunate to have my Remington 78 in .223 for comparison at the time.

Here is what I found:
  • With bulk Federal American Eagle .223 55 gr. ammo, both rifles shot3 1/2" groups; sometimes over 4" groups at 100 yards.
  • With my homeloaded varmint ammo using random brass and a hot load under a Speer HPBT match bullet the remington 78 would consistently shoot groups < 1 inch; the AR shot tighter groups between 3/4 and 1/2".
Conclusion:
  • Federal AE ammo is crap.
  • 20" Chrome lined Norinco barrel is excellent.

At some point I will pick up some heavier 5.56 ammo and give it a try, but I am plenty happy with my home loads.

I will add that homeloads with .55 gr. campro bullets, same powder, same powder charge as I am using behind the Speer bullets is only slightly better than the Federal AE at around 3" at 100 yards.

For accuracy, my guess is that ammo will be the determining factor, not the gun.

I have owned a lot of Norinco products including .22 rifles, and currently still have two of their pistols (NZ85 and .45 1911; I shoot both of these a lot). Their barrels are as good as any and better than most, and their firearms are reliable, functional and durable.

Yes the vietnam style never was interrested in those but i wanted to add another AR to the pool, so i got this one, it was the last one and it was discounted from 699 to 599.

It was a good score.

I saw that one I think it was in the bargain bin, perhaps slightly used? Or small blem
