Spitballing an idea: C7/C8 Clone Lowers

First, let me caveat that this discussion is theoretical, assuming you guys dodge a bullet on the implementation of C71 and my pols here in Seattle don't go much more Full Metal Retard.

I've noticed that several of you guys like Aero Precision lowers, which just happen to be made practically in my backyard. Every year or two they do a run of lowers marked as M4 and M16 clones, which led me to an idea: I'd suspect if there were enough orders, it shouldn't be too hard for "money to talk" and persuade them to do a run of similar C7 and C8 clones.

For comparison, here's a Colt "Mfaux" with US Gov Property markings but made for the collector market, above, and its Aero counterpart below:

Two questions:
  • To our general members: How many of us would be interested if this could happen?
  • To our Business Members: could this be set up as a CGN Group Buy, or how many numbers would you guys need to talk to Aero about a run? I'd assume that you guys would have to pool orders through one importer/distributor to get enough orders on the books even if it happened.

I'm willing to reach out to Aero and do a little research, try to find out what their minimum run size is and what the cost per would be and see about some matchmaking, but if I do this I have one condition as the price of my effort: one matched set of C7A2 and C8A3 lowers, both with a serial of my choosing (ex., if I pick 12345 and this goes off in 2020, I get C7A2 lower 20AA12345 and C8A3 20AE12345), to be diverted from the run, stay here in the Puget Sound area and be sold to me through my neighborhood FFL. What do you guys think, does this sound like something that'd be worth looking into? Admittedly, we don't know how C71's going to affect you guys so this discussion may be academic in the end.

Issue is copyright. While I like their M4 tribute it’s not quite the same as having the dancing pony or the Devtek.

If a proper clone could be pulled off I’d certainly be interested.

Leg, Atomic Engraving does an 80% with full Devtek marks--I know 80%s are illegal up there, but it seems to me that if raw forgings are fair game then they should be able to similarly engrave a 0% raw forging. Also, bear in mind that I'm a guest popping by from South of The Line--down here I get Aeros for $80 a pop, IIRC about what you guys pay for our $40 Anderson or PSA lowers of mixed reputation.

oddly enough I was looking at a marked diemaco clone on gunbroker last night. Might be a little cheaper if you got IRUNGUNS to bring them in for you. I think they were $175 USD

Also, AR parts are generally "one way" crossing the border--things can go up for you guys but not come down for us, and most of the Diemaco clones I see on GB are Atomic Engraving 80%'s (which are illegal up there IIRC, something about you guys needing a shelf so it can't be converted to a three-pin or something I'm unclear on the details of).

Edit: I see that even though Atomic adopted my info about serials I sent them they did a half-arse job of it... off-center type markings, and using C8 with AE codes when my datadump specifically noted that AB was for C8, AE only for C8A3.

Just to follow up: since Aero is supporting lawfare against some gun-grab BS here in WA I reached out to them to suggest that they sell a "1639 Special" lower as a fundraiser through their partner Sporting Systems, and the response was basically "we don't do anything custom for anyone, we only make what we feel like when we feel like it."

So the discussion was a moot point. :(
