Gun shops FRUSTRATING

Well we dont know if its worth $600 of $100...it might just be a $100 prohib 32 but it might just be an antique 32RF worth more like $400. The problem is that they wont even pull it out from under the glass to let you have a look at it to confirm whether its antique or not.
And if it were an antique would you spend $600 on it? Not likely I would think. Not for a 32 rimfire. While I would think they should show you the gun (even if you can't buy it) I understand why they may not want to waste their time doing it.
I think that firearms shops do have the worst customer service of any retail locations I've ever shopped at....for exactly the reasons you mentioned. I don't know why either, there are 2 in Calgary I really like, but on the whole they are elitist and snobby most of the time. I'd either get pushy to see the serial numbers, or just stay out of the shop, which I assume is tough based on availability in Regina.
I was at the big outdoor store in Stoon and was very impressed with their one guy who knew antiques and took the time to show me the Sharpe carbine even after I told him there was no way I was going to be able to afford 4500$.
The other guys had no idea about antiques but I would definitly deal with them again just because of the way I was treated. I was very surprised that a big box store like that one would have better service than the old owner/operator stores.
