Hey All!

I'm just getting ready to order my P22 and I was chatting with Wolverine where Ryan informed me they just got in a new kit. This kit includes a red-dot site and mount/bracket.... but it's $100.00 more

Personally, I can't see getting this but I thought I would double check with you first to see if anyone had a reason why this is a really great deal or awesome idea....

Cheers!!

I hope it's a recent generation P22 and that your compensator doesn't have a tendency to get loose.

Do a quick search and you'll see what I mean.

I used a red dot sight on my Beretta 87T and liked the fact that it was faster and easier to get my pistol on target. It gave me a slight edge in accuracy as well but I had it on for one range session and have never put it back on. I didn't like the bulk that it added to the pistol. I think the $100 would buy a lot of ammo, cleaning supplies or what not. BTW, if you go to Walther's website and look at their product catalogue you can see what the sight and mount looks like on a P22. The looks don't do anything for me. YMMV.

If you are planning to introduce a lot of new shooters to shooting pistol, the red dot sight is great! Everybody can understand that they need to place the red dot on what they want to hit and then pull the trigger. Trying to explain what the sight picture should be using traditional sights can be a bit of a chore and beginners don't enjoy missing any more than we do. I wouldn't recommend a red dot sight for any other reason however.

I saw the kits at Wolverine last week. They are really nice. My wife wants one based on looks alone...

 You gotta be kiddin'.................:puke:

You can remove the compensator and have just the barrel sticking out from what I understand. All it is is a polymer extension to make it look fancier. It apparently tends to cause issues with accuracy though and can come loose.

Ya... that's the red dot kit. But I don't need to spend $100 on a sight I dont need for my handgun. He's going to call me from Wolverine tomorrow and let me know if he can get me the regular handgun, no kit

I like Ryan, he's been really super helpful. He even emailed me pictures today!

edit to add: hey... think if I mention I was referred to him from CGN he might work harder at finding me a nonkit version? lol...

The P22 was designed for a 3.4" barrel. The restricted model with the compensater is 5". There was a guy on here who profesionnaly shortened his up to 4.1". Looks MUCH better having only 3/4 of an inch coming out of it.

I have one of the models where the stupid fake compensater comes loose after 50-100 rounds. I pulled it off, and never looked back. Gun comes with 3 differant front sights so that you can plant one at the end of the slide. I get the same groups as I did with the extra 1.5"s of sight length.

I'd go with that kit for $100 personally.

Here's mine awaiting that 'shave down' to 4 inches, it's a really tiny gun, and looks akward with the 5":

Fonix, yes that is what I had in mind as well.

Do you know how difficult a process it is to complete the 'shaving down' of the barrell?

I mean as far as bringing it to a gunsmith... then getting it rechecked by an authority and what not....??

Well, it's a little differant than normal, because there is the barrel, and then this 'sleeve' over top of it that's held on by the cap on the end.

So basically, the gun smith would have to grind down the barrel & the sleeve, then re-thread it so that the cap can go back on....bit of a process, which is why mine still looks as it does lol.

As far as having it 're-checked', not sure if it's required as it's staying a restricted... not too sure though.

The Red dot and mount are a good deal for an extra $100...but I'm a fan of red dots!
The picture above looks out of balance but with the longer barrel and comp thing it might not look so bad and maybe the mount will help clamp the fake compressor to the frame???
With the mount you could also scope the pistol for accuracy testing shooting different ammo and then go back to the irons when you've found your favorite ammo.
You can always use the red dot on a different gun as well......

Well it's ordered and I had no choice but to get the kit. Apparently that's all everyone has... I checked. Ryan said they don't even have any non kit versions on order, and neither does his supplier. He agreed with me that it's weird but what can you do eh?

A few years from now $100 won't matter.. .just still a bit of a pain...
