Hey everyone. I'm looking at a rifle that's been rechambered from 222 to 223. If it's in good shape and has a low round count do I have any reason to be concerned due to it being rechambered? Rifle is priced accordingly. Any input is appreciated, thanks.

What is the rifling twist? Some .222s may be 1-14. Can be a problem with some ammunition in .223.
The .223 reamer may or may not have cleaned up all traces of the .222 chamber. If there are minor rings on the fired cases, it doesn't make any difference.
Then there is the question of whether the job was done well, by whom.

Tiriaq makes a valid point- the rifle most likely has a 1 in 14 twist, so you'll probably cap out at 55 grain bullets, give or take a few grains. No biggie for plinking and varmints, but you won't be feeding it heavy VLD bullets. If the rechambering was done well it won't hurt accuracy, and a good smith may have improved on the previous factory chamber. Do you have an opportunity to shoot the rifle? I'd try some lighter bullets first, and work up to heavier ones. Once the bullets start arriving sideways you'll know what the barrel wants.

I've had a few rifles rechambered and one thing that was consistent was that a rifle that was only capable of mediocre accuracy did not improve in this category after rechambering.

I had a Czech 98 8x57 rechambered to 8mm/06. It was "sporterized" many years ago. Worked ok. I wouldn't do it to a real nice sporting rifle. Just my humble opinion.

Picked one up same conversion, .222 to .223, a few years ago for the cost of the action, stock, and scope mount on it. Had every intention of rebarreling to a faster twist or 6x45 but the thing shoots great with 55 grain flat base soft points to 400 meters and that will do most of what I want one of the fast .22 centerfires for. I know boattails and polymer tips are no go unless 50 or lighter, never bothered to check my twist though.

Buy it and have it rechambered to 22-250 so it matches the twist lol.
I'm a 222 fan, so I would have no interest in that conversion.
I have one conversion, 9.3x57 that a good board member reamed to 9.3x62. It actually shoots like a lazer. Leaves a very faint ring on the neck where the old mouth ended. It's as keeper.

You forgot change the bolt face and if you want it to feed mag work as well. That is assuming the action will house a .22-250 cartridge.

I had a SS 30-06 bbl put on a M700 magnum action and re-chambered to 300H&H. Worked perfectly and is accurate.
