I'm waiting to hear back on some estate firearms I viewed the other night. Looking for some advice on a fair market price (what they would actually go for in Canada, rather than Blue Book pricing) for a couple of doubles.

First is a Savage Fox model B 20g (forgot to bring a measure, but seemed to be either 26" or 28") in absolutely beautiful shape. Checkering is excellent, as is case color and blue. Bores are like mirrors.

The other is a trojan grade Parker Brother 16g SxS. Again, I think either 26" or 28". Bores are same as the Savage, blueing on the barrel is excellent, receiver has faded to mostly gray, wood is excellent except for a crack in the forestock running from the tip (someone obviously took to letting it snap on rather than easing it on).

Any help would be appreciated.

Values

Check out doublegunshopDOTcom auction reports for current American prices, deduct a percentage for lack of interest in Canada and a further percentage for more expensive gunsmithing/refinishing of good doubles here.

For a Savage Fox 20, I'd think $350 - $600; for the Parker Trojan 16, $400 - $750.

Cheers,

Bob

You gotta know photos would be a help ....

For the Savage Fox 20 ... pretty much "right on" the Blue Book values
in US $$$ ( go figure ! )

For the Parker Bros. Trojan 16 ... even with a (likely repairable) crack in the
forend, $ 750 is on the "light side" ... particularly if there is good blue & varnish remaining ( Parker case colours are rarely evident in "shooters" )
$ 1250 to $ 1500 may be more realistic. - a good used Parker is always worth more than a new Condor or Baikal !!!

$1250 -$1500 for a Trojan? Even in a 16 that's way too high. I agree with Bluedcanoed $400- a high of $750 depending on condition.

I agree with both, although I personally would rather have a Parker Trojan over a new Baikal or Condor.....not that there is anything wrong with either just personal preference.
This being said it is very hard to get that kind of money for a Trojan.

Should have pics tomorrow night. I think the Fox is going to be my grouse gun for the fall, but I think the Parker will be on the sale block.

Don't know why I thought there was a crack in the forestock :onCrack:

Here are some pics of the 16g Parker

I'm keeping the 20g Savage, so I don't need an estimate on that. :D

Where is the frame size marked? Any way to date it by serial number?

Frame size should be on the water table as a lone number, the 16's were built on a couple different frames, the smaller of them being more in demand. The 1 and 1 1/2 frames are the 12 guage frame, and less valuable than a 2 by my limited understanding.

I once knew of a Parker Bros serial number index online, but can't find it in my limited searching at the moment.

parker Brothers

The blue book has serial # and dates.
If you send me the number, I can tell you the date.
What is the Marlin and s.s. rifle in your rack.
The org. faxes where # and have list for them, but not after
1940 , and no # when Savage made them.
BTW the fox is been made again in by the Connecticut Shot Gun Man. Co.

Frame size is 1, and the serial number is 2175XX.

There are a few Marlins there, but the one with the leather boot hanging off it (came on the Parker - just put it there to get it out of the way) is an 1893 in 38-55. The single is a Pedersoli Sharps Target model in 45-70.

Parker's worth $1,100 or even a hair more in that condition by my estimation no problem, and I sell a lot of guns, including a Parker 16 guage Trojan once actually. Mine wasn't as nice as yours, and went for around $800 easily.

For a Trojan? You guy's are paying way too much for guns out West. I've bought and sold four Trojans this Summer. Some in nicer condition than this one none went for over $600. If it's the small frame 16 you might get $800 but it's hard to tell by the supplied pic's.

Trojan

Unless the Trojan is different than all other Parkers the frame size is stamped on the bottom of the lug closest to the breech. The frame size increases with the number. A 16 in most grades may have been one of several sizes. From small to larger, 00, 0, 1/2, 1, 1 1/2, 2 ect. The Trojans were more limited in frame size and option choices. Does this one have a doll's head extension on the rib? Some of the early ones did before they dropped it. If you PM me or post the serial number I can check the Parker Serialization Book to see what the date, original barrel length, ect when it was made. Some order and stock books were lost so not all are in the book, but the vast majority are. Its tough to tell the condition from the pictures you posted. Parkers go for quite a bit higher in the U.S. than Canada. I think the value would be toward the middle of the estimates posted if the barrels are original length and the gun hasn't been refinished. The low end if it has. But, I'm not an expert and its worth whatever someone will pay for it.

PM'd you the serial number. Doesn't have a doll's head extension, and the blue on the barrel appears to be original (roll stamp on rib is very sharp).

So would frame size 1 be considered small for a 16g, or large?

I'll try to get the in-laws camera tomorrow (takes a hell of a lot better pic) and get some better pics.

Sorry for the delay, just got back in ,the blue book says 1925
That Marlin cluttering up your shot gun rack- I could hang it on mine.
BTY- don't you just HATE those slip on pads? It should be illigal
to put one on a quality gun.
