i saw a video on youtube of an ithica 10guage auto shotgun, which i understand later became remington sp10. does anybody have any thoughts on these? looked like a lot of fun, imagine would be very good for goose? duck? how does the browning automatic 10 guage compare?

thanks

The Gold 10 is a little more refined and significantly lighter for lugging any distance. The SP-10 and Ithaca mag 10 both share a few common wear parts, some are hard to find in Canada. Any of them are tough to beat for through heavy payloads of large sized steel shot and are they would be hard to best for geese. Ithaca Mag 10's are likely to have a fixed choke.
I'd prefer the Browning just for the parts availability unless I found a great deal on an SP 10 with a 24 or 26" barrel.

I own one of each and they all perform well now. The sp-10 is not as fussy with respect to being clean/ dry and functions better than the brownings as far as cycling goes IMO
I sent my ithaca barrel to Briley for choke tube fitting many years ago and they had issues when owned by ithaca which remington worked out when they bought the design. I rarely use the ithaca any more in fact never
If I expect real nasty weather I will use the remington most times
Both of my browning are early ones with steel receivers
Yes I own four semi 10ga :)
Cheers

I have been shooting a SP10 26 inch bought it in 1995 it has been flawless , Steel triple bb with a mod choke will stone most anything a long way out. The 3.5 12 gauge works ok but it wont run with the 10.

Thats exactly what Im hoping for when I decided to buy my Browning Gold 10. This coming September will be my first goose season using it. Cant wait to put it to use on them big Canada’s

For what it is worth both of mine hate the winchester ribbed hulls like black cloud etc
Both tear the crap out of them when ejecting
Remington and federal they love :)
Cheers

I remember you telling me that and will take your advice. I may make a stop at The Gun Dealer when driving through New Brunswick in the next few days to see what they have for shells and extended chokes

I have an SP-10, with a 30” barrel, and a 24” rifle sighted smoothbore barrel. Run Briley and factory tubes depending on what doing.

Heaven as Sin, but 100% reliable and head and shoulders ahead of 3.5” .12 ga..

Seen more Brownings for sale. Maybe that should say something.

Good Luck.

Honestly all it says is that there are and were a hell of a lot more brownings made for a much longer period of time

I have a SP-10 with the 30" barrel. Wish it had a 26" barrel, that's the only thing I would change on it. It's a heavy SOB, no questioning that. I'm in good shape though and have no problem throwing it around. Recoil is soft, pretty sure my wife's little Weatherby PA-08 20ga with 3" magnums kicks harder than the SP-10. Reaches out and touches stuff. I dusted a crow last year that I swear had to be 70-75 yards in the air, never thought I'd hit it. Folded like a deck of cards. I plan on doing quite a bit of hunting this fall for waterfowl with it. Can be challenging to find ammo hut luckily Cabelas carries it. Only the Remington Hi speed steel and Hypersonics. Only ones I've shot were the hi speed steel BBB with good results.

I shot one for 10 seasons. I would buy two flats of ammo every year at LeBarons. Winchester Super X 1 3/4 oz #1. Never once experienced a jam or fte. Shot alot of other stuff too and never an issue including some old Winchester paper shells given to me.

I bought one (SP10) last year from a retired gent who doesn't hunt much anymore. It came with a custom 26" ported barrel with tubes and 2 cases of shells. Was not a believer in 10 gauge but am now .Have had both a Beretta and Benelli 3.5" and thought they were great but the SP 10 has made a believer out of me.Knocked 2 Brandt out of a flock at 70+ with the first shot.Amazed me and it has not missed a beat all last season.Heavy at 11.5 lbs. so not something I want to pack for a long way but devastating out of a punt or pit blind.

Man I cant wait. Goose opener cant come fast enough.

I really lucked out a couple weeks back when I stopped into Bass Pro in Niagara on my way to fish the Niagara River. They had Remington hi-speed steel shells for 50% off. At $19/box, I bought everything they had in the store.

The good old days of cheap ammo. I used to buy my flats of steel ammo at Lebaron’s. The 3” Winchesters used to be about $100/flat and the 2 3/4” were around $80/flat. Those days are long unfortunately

I just picked up another 10ga. I normally use a sxs 10ga but bought a browning pump. Love the big tens. Just have to decide which choke tubes to buy for this new browning as it didnt come with any for steel. Itll see use for early goose season

Keep us posted what choke you buy and how it patterns. I wouldn't mind picking up a couple different ones for my Gold

The carlson chokes i bought for my a400 were very underwhelming so im not sure i want to go with them. Im still shopping. My credit card has been shut down for a fraud charge investigation so i cant orser online until they turn it back on and remove the charge that just showed up on it

A very wise CGN’r advised me that the extended Briley IM is what he recommends based on his experience with his Browning 10’s
