So the old bear is a nice animal that Aussies dont really list high on the list of things to Kill......... we like em, cos we r so far away from em.. right :D

But, I am slowly growing some kind of interest in Black Bear hunt........... and im wondering is there any OTC or ways i can hunt with Residents ?

or is that also unlikely , similiar to the Muleys and Elks etc?

Kinda wanna poke a .375BB into it ha ha

For a small fee, i could adopt you.

To hunt a black bear in Ontario non￾residents must have an Outdoors Card,
a non-resident black bear licence, a bear
tag and a black bear hunting validation
certificate. The non-resident black bear
licence is valid in both the spring and
fall seasons. The black bear hunting
validation certificate can be obtained from
a bear operator (operator of a tourist
establishment, guide or air carrier) licensed
to provide black bear hunting services to
non-residents or from the ministry (refer
to exemptions). A non-resident hunter
using a licensed bear operator must hunt
only in the areas designated on the black
bear hunting validation certificate received
from the operator. These areas can include
Crown or private land located within a Bear
Management Area (BMA) and private land
located within a WMU designated on the
operator’s licence. The operator’s licence
does not permit the operator to provide
bear hunting services on private land
located within a BMA licensed to another
operator. The operator must have the
landowner’s permission in order to provide
black bear hunting services to clients on
private land.
The following non-residents are not
required to use a licensed bear operator. In
these cases, the non-resident can contact
a Ministry office to apply for a validation
certificate.
• A non-resident hunting with an immediate
relative who is an Ontario resident
licensed to hunt black bear in a WMU that
has an open season for non-residents.
An immediate relative is a person’s
grandparent, parent, spouse, child, sibling
or grandchild.

• A non-resident who is the owner of
property in a WMU that has an open black
bear season for non-residents. Only one
validation certificate will be issued for a
property each year and you must only
hunt in the WMU where the property is
located.

Flutchi, amazingly, i just learnt more about Alberta Hunter Host........... now that seems up my Alley!

I was going to mention that. We can do hunter host here in Alberta and AB has lots of nice colour phase bears too in blonde, browns and cinnamons.

i been reading ha ha! it saaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyssss muuleys whiteys elks bears coyote an wolfs Tags could be gained by hunter host setup........

that to Me, sounds like there could be some serious huntin on the Cards!

with a Hunter Host setup, what is typically expected in return ? im all ears

BC has hunter host programs but only for other Canadians or direct relatives. Can you take non Canadians on the Alberta program?

Considering the amount of black bears in BC, it would seem prudent to allow non Canadians to be hosted for that species but the regulations with non residents having to hire a guide are so entrenched in BC that it would be an uphill battle. There are big bears all over BC, and despite a 2 tag limit, not very many are hunted.

There are so many cheap black bear hunts (I’m not one of them we’re too remote to be cheap) I’d personally start shopping those, many approach 100% success spot and stalk, springtime is when you should go. BC has a third of the whole country’s black bears and over half its grizzlies, it’s a good place to go to see bears.

This said good and extremely cost effective bait hunts exist across Canada (except BC, baiting is illegal here), it’s just a much different experience than spot and stalk hunting them in the mountain alpine or on the ocean. Bear hunting isn’t technically or tactically challenging so it might as well be an excuse to be in a gorgeous place, not cruising logging roads on a quad. Brace for ground shrinkage, while very large as far as predators go, shooter Black Bears are usually well under 200kgs and that’s a mighty small animal physically when you give it short bear legs... vs long elk legs etc for a cow of the same weight, that’s visually much more impressive. Even the biggest Grizz and Brown bears are like that took, extremely heavy, but physically even a 9’ bear is much smaller than you expect.

In Alberta, hunter hosts can't benefit for their hosting. I think it's worded "no gain or reward" for hosting. So if you have a buddy to host you, it should be free (minus your license costs). But for non resident aliens, you need to apply ahead of time (I can't remember the deadline date).

I figured I better make sure before steering you in the wrong direction. This is from our (Alberta) regulations:

A Hunter Host

Must be an adult resident, and be eligible to hold recreational hunting licences.
Must be the holder of a valid WIN and Hunter Host Licence (below).
may not provide services for gain or reward, or accept remuneration, directly or indirectly, for such services.
may host a maximum of two (2) hunters/year, either Non-residents (Canadian), Non-resident Aliens or a combination thereof. If hosting 2 Non-resident Aliens, at least 1 must be a relative.
may host Non-resident Aliens only if the host has not hosted a Non-resident Alien in the previous two (2) fiscal years (April 1 to March 31).
must report to the Fish and Wildlife office by December 31 in the year of harvest all hunting activities by the Non-resident Aliens he or she hosted. A report must be submitted even if the hunter doesn’t harvest an animal.
must accompany the hunter(s) named on his or her Hunter Host Licence while they are hunting big game under the authority of the Hunter Host Licence.
Hunter Host Licence
A resident who wishes to be a Hunter Host may purchase a Hunter Host Licence online at albertarelm.com or at any licence issuer. You must have the WIN(s) of the non-resident(s) at the time of purchase. You must ensure that the hunters you host are named on your Hunter Host Licence. If you purchase your Hunter Host licence naming one hunter and you decide to add a second hunter to your licence at a later date, you can do so at no additional charge. Return to albertarelm.com or to a licence issuer to have your licence amended. Once you have purchased your Hunter Host Licence, the hunters may purchase their licences.

A Hunter Host who plans to take a non-resident alien hunting must do the following:

Go to a Fish and Wildlife office in person and initiate an application (including statutory declaration). Sign it and have your signature sworn. If your Non-resident Alien is not a relative, you must start this process by August 31 or February 28 as described above.
Have the Non-resident Alien sign the application and have his or her signature sworn. If the Non-resident Alien does not have a WIN, have him or her fill out a WIN application at the same time.
Take the completed application to a Fish and Wildlife office. The application will be reviewed for final approval and keyed into the automated licensing system.
When you are notified that your application is approved, go online at albertarelm.com or to any licence issuer and purchase your Hunter Host Licence (see above) and the appropriate Wildlife Certificate and licences.

Appreciate that Doulbe gun, ive been reading up on the whole program , an even the due by dates for the draws/ following years tags .......i feel like im getting it!
i had a few Questions but they can proberly wait.

I understand the no reward but perhaps theres a gifted item, certainly fuel money etc.

What i've also learnt is the Tags are inexpensive , ranging from $8 WIN, $20 various print offs n ####, $$$ couple hundred for like a few tags of different species- bear-mule-white-elk-moose is an option i think but specials are out, like Cougar and Sheep etc! cool with me.

So far i like the whole setup and think i could get done with like reasonable low cost budget 'stalkin the dream' type extended trip over there ..............................

but , I dont personally know any Albertan hunters who could add the Hunter Host $27 license to their existing license........

without beatin around the bush thats where the adventure stops- I would need to generously Ask CGN network to see if anyone might be more interested in discussing some plans to do a Hunter Host program, with also keepin in mind i would ideally love to keep accomodation costs low by trying to find some camping/cabin accom depending on the season in time for the hunting (hot or cold?)

Im fairly open to Swap hunt back in Australia if thats something someone would want to try line up.... can definatly arrange alot of hunting, different species.

I might ave to put up another post with a bit of bio on me perhaps and Ask the Questions in there!

depending on spacing of seasons of species, could perhaps spend a week or two in places hunting an move around between hunter hosts?? is that an option,- i do wonder!

its something i would like to try arrange as it gives me something to look forward to an work toward- while being in between a few fairly big decisions with work and life, but anywho

open to suggestions also, as the Mule or Elk or a Whitetail aswell as Bear, would be epic! sub $1000 for tags and hunting OKs

come on fellas..... someone step up and be a host for whelanlad

If I was an Albertan resident I could help you out but I'm from BC
