"That cartridge is Boring"

I think a cartridge gets boring if it doesn't follow some story line, or if it's too comon. So if a guy is interested in super high velocity magnums, a 300 win. is probably a pretty good round, but it's possibly a case of "same old same old". On the other hand the 30-30 doesn't even follow the story line. One might get a glimer of interest if the Leverlution came up, it's a slight bit faster down range, but way outside the story line.
Sometimes a whole class of rifles or cartridges go without much of a story for some time. Lever actions would be an example of that. But they are back what with CAS shooting, people looking for stealth "black rifles" (300 rpm, and no need to flip even a sellector, better triggers). Guide rifle and the whole co-pilot thing, bumping them into the dangerous game area. Not a big story in any of those areas really, but quite a make over vs. the previous 20 years. So if you are into any of that, some cartridge, gun, whatever may turn your crank if it fits your story line and it isn't an old story.

From what I've been able to determine from these past pages is that many folks think the .30-06 is boring. I often wonder if the '06 haters ever fired one. There is even a poem about what is possible with $200.00 and a .30-06.
By most definitions, my Brno 602 carbine in .375 Ultra would not be boring - except maybe by those of you who are tired of reading about it in my posts. Now it takes me along time to get comfortable with a new cartridge, and I spent many years shooting the .30-06. I am very comfortable with that cartridge, and I don't have to think too hard about it's trajectory anymore.
Most of my long gun shooting the last few years though has been with my .375. It seems that the trajectory of a 300 gr .375 bullet at 2600 mimics a similar 200 gr bullet fired in a .30-06. A 270 gr bullet at 2800 flies along the same path as a similar style 180 gr bullet from a .30-06, and a 260 gr bullet loaded to 2900 follows the path of a similar 150 gr bullet from, you guessed it, the .30-06.
Everyone has their favorite cartridges, these are two of mine. Whenever we buy a new rifle or try a new cartridge, we must ask, "What is it for?" If you find a given combination boring, perhaps you need a change of life style, because what you call boring, I call comforting.
