Dfference between AR 15 and XM-15 Carbine?

I was able to handle a sub machine gun similar to the a Sten gun and a Bren gun in 7.62. You have to realize I was in the reserves in the mid 1960's and because I was a tall man 6' 6" my CO's wanted me to be trained as an MP and I was quite happy to do that. Because of me being the largest man in the unit I was ALWAYS designated to carry the largest calibre rifle that was available to use. Usually I carried the rifle with, one carried the bipod + ammo, 2 rifleman for protection that also carried more ammo. Being in the reserves DND did not give us the latest equipment available, mostly older used guns. The very first rifle I was issues was a surplus FN A1 C3 (4.99kg/11lbs with bayonet and full 20 rd mag) also shot the C1 sniper (very nice rifle) but heavy.
It's a restricted AR-15 variant, it will be treated the same as every other AR-15 and variant.
Since you've been around since the last bans that grandfathered guys into the system you should know that being grandfathered is not a good thing. In my opinion it's only being done so they don't have to compensate us for our property, then they will stop issuing ATT's in a year or two and we'll all have a bunch of safe queens that will never see a range again.

Not so sure about that just because last set of prohibs aren't getting new issued atts. So odds are so will this.

Obviously this is just speculation but I think the last round of prohibs happened to a count of a few thousand firearms. This time around it'll be a six-figure number. That's a lot of people to piss off with a lot of money spent on the sport, plus now we actually have some good orgs and far more retailers with a dog in the fight. I predict a class action suit if it's the same kind of prohib as last time. I predict if there is a wide-net prohib, it'll basically be range use only, to de-fang people. Enough owners will be somewhat placated if they're still allowed to shoot *somewhere*.
If we, the orgs, and the major retailers don't get together and start a well-funded legal action, that's nutty. We have nothing to lose.
I think the current "we're making them prohib but you'll still be able to use them at a range" is garbage just so we don't fight back as hard. If that was the case then they've changed nothing other than the name, why would they waste time on that unless there was a long game as well? This is why I think the ATT's will only be for a couple years then we'll see the end of the AR at the range.
Ask the guys who currently have a prohib license when the last time they fired their prohib rifle was, hopefully you don't get punched in the face. Grandfathering is not a good thing and guys are still confused about it. Being grandfathered will not open up a new market of cool guns to you, you will only be grandfathered to own an AR, nothing else.
Don't think that the conservatives are our friends either, they don't give a shnit about us either, I consider them to be less of our enemy but they are not pro gun. They know that we are a large group (votes) but if pissing us off got them twice as many votes from a group that is anti gun they would drop consideration for us in a second.

IMO the "long game" is the total prohibition in a generation. It would cost relatively little in actual money to make that happen. In the meantime, Bill Blair and his cronies *know* these don't pose a threat to public safety, so they know not to push too hard (total prohibition for no legitimate reason wouldn't necessarily stand up to a court challenge).
