Hey Everyone,

I am going to start loading 260 Remington. What dies would you suggest? and any comments would be appreciated.

for reference;

New Lapua brass and the rifle will be a Tikka t3x barreled action in a chassis (as soon as it gets here:)

Thanks in advance and Happy True North Brexit Day :) (Canada Day)

Cheers

As for any cartridge I load for, I'd go Redding. I like the Type S Match set, but the standard deluxe die set is a good one too. Consider adding a Micrometer VLD seating stem. A decent option is the Hornady die set, with the addition of their Microjust seating stem. They offer ELD profile seating stems too

Thanks!

Interesting comment about the "ELD Seating profile" The ELD Match is a bullet I like and am loading them in 223 (RCBS dies). Recently I have been loading 308 Scenar L's into new Lapua brass and the tips are showing a little deformation. I was wonder about seating die profile and these newer really long projectiles possibly causing the deformation? I had also considered that the new brass may just have really tight neck tension and was hoping once it was fired the bullet deformation would disappear?

I prefer Forster full length benchrest dies with their high mounted floating expanders because of the very low neck runout after sizing vs bushing dies or other type dies.

Below, with the Forster dies the neck of the case is held and centered in the neck of the die when the expander enters the case neck. This helps prevent the expander fron pulling the necks off center and inducing neck runout.

You can do a similar sizing job and low neck runout with any full length die with the expander removed and followed by a expander die on the upstroke of the ram. "BUT" this requires that the case be sized twice and the Forster will do the same in one sizing operation.

NOTE, the Redding bushing die FAQ recommends using their expander if the neck thickness varies .002 or more. Meaning if you do not turn your necks the thickness variations need to be pushed to the outside of the case neck.

New Lapua brass can have very tight necks. I run them in an expander mendrel on the 1st reload.

I’m not too picky about my dies. I mostly run RCBS but I also have a few Hornady and Redding

H Everyone,

I thought I would do a follow up on this post. Thanks for the great advice and to the guys that P M'd me . The Tikka CTR 260 Donor Rifle I have on order won't be here until 2020. So this project is on hold until the rifle arrives.

In the mean time I purchased a Stag 10 in 6.5 to keep me busy.

So thanks again to everyone who posted :) I guess I will start doing research on reloading for semi auto :)
