Night setup rifles

I really like that HS buttstock piece w/zippered pocket; what do you store in it?... :yingyang:

Forgive my ignorance here but why a night rig?
Have you guys got coyote problems?
Is it purely for fun?
From my perspective this seems very pointless.
I will say though that the rigs here do look great.
I am a fairly new black rifle owner. My first was a 10.5" Norinco which I regretted selling. I now own a M&P-15 on which I'd like a red dot but it's just irons for now. I got 4 mouths ages 3 to 8 to feed so my funds are limited.

Because I can.

Coyotes, racoons and skunks are all night critters. Deer can be too(mostly twilight). To me irons are at a big disadvantage vs scopes and illuminated sights mostly because you have to see your own gun to make a shot. They limit your hiding options and shooting hours quite a bit.

I get your situation I shot my first deers with irons cause I was a broke student. I got at least 1/2 hour more at dusk just by adding a nikon prostaff to my rig. I now run a VX-R 2-7 illuminated on an m14 and I believe it is as close as you can get to a night rig without thermals

Funny... Nobody has mentioned it's illegal to discharge a firearm 30 minutes after sunset.

f:P:2:

Note that that's a hunting regulation, not a firearm regulation.

Is disposing of critters, i.e. coyotes, raccons, etc considered hunting? Even for critter control?

Lol, thanks!

On the eve of my thirtieth birthday I had to commit ancient druidic rituals on a barren heath in the Irish burren, but I was blessed with a beard as a result.

I don't want to derail the thread too far, but here's a certain bud I take pictures of occasionally with a night-setup. Sadly since these were taken a few years ago one of the PVS-14 tubes has burned out, so I'm back to the monocular setup. At least it wasn't the autogated one that went...

Funny we have a nighttime coon license, can't be too illegal.

Not to mention the night is the best time to rat

My bad, I guess it's Provincial (Alberta) legislation... And although it's only found in the hunting regulations, it's still illegal to discharge a firearm more than 30 minutes after sunset here in Alberta...
