I was de priming some 9mm brass at my work table...having a smoke & a glass of Coke.

I bumped the table and some uncleaned dirty range brass fell down into my tall glass of coke.
Well crap ! didnt bother dumping it,..just went on working.
The next day I started cleaning up the table. I dumped out the day old coke and wow,....I noticed the brass cases that fell into it were nice & clean !! well, then.......I think I'll go pick up a couple cheap NO Name litres of Coke & dump a bunch of brass in and try it on a bigger scale.
It certainly works better than all the other cleaners I tried. coke for cleaning brass......and I'm drinking this stuff ??? LOL

Oh wow..it has alot of uses.
They have the no name pop on for 66 cents a liter at super store today.
glug glug glug into the bucket she goes.

I’ve seen a guy use a penny and coke to clean rust off guns and other metal .....and people drink the stuff....dear god thank god I don t drink pop at all ....what is it doing to your insides !,!!!!

Coca-cola contains a significant amount of phosphoric acid, it's right on the label. I'm not sure that other brands of colas have an acid content as high as Coke is.

Phosphoric acid is the best tarnish remover for brass I have found, and I have read it's what some of the factories use to remove the annealing heat tint from the cases. I've been meaning to try cola as a case cleaner for a while now, but I don't drink pop so I don't ever have it on hand.

Wanna see something neat? Mix coke and milk in a tall glass, give it a stir, then let it sit in the fridge overnight.

You should see what oxygen does to iron..........

coke is by far my favorite beverage, ice cold with bourbon whisky in it.

I have to try this coke method. What did you with the brass after? Just lay it down on some paper towel to dry? Won't it be all sticky after?

Also thanks for the reminder as to why I don't drink pop but especially coke

Put a nail in a cup of Coke & leave it for a few days .

I have it on pretty good authority that coins fed through a baby's digestive system, come out shiny and new looking, once they are washed off, too.

Being amazed at what Coke does (or appalled) to a nail, is a sure sign of someone who does not really have a clue about the acids that are in our stomachs, and which we rely upon to digest our foods!

Phosphoric and citric acids both work a treat for cleaning brass. You can try citric acid on a small scale. It's the 'sour' in Kool-Aid mix that comes without the sugar already mixed in. Or it's sold as "Sour Salt" in some grocery stores. But if you want it cheap, hit the home brew supply places, and buy a kilo or so for about $10. Commonly used to clean commercial kitchen equipment too. Way nicer job on the scaled up kettle, than dumping a couple dollars worth of vinegar (acetic acid) into that, too.
