BCL 102. Worth it?

Just get a stag...BCL is junk

If you do get a Stag 10, make sure its not one of those short stroking ones with off spec parts. I've seen a few of those unfortunately. I cannot believe how a company like Stag Arms let's those out the door?

You have seen out of spec stags?
What parts were out of spec, I would like to avoid them?
Are you a gunsmith?

Gas port too small resulting in short stroking. Gas block misalignment. Forward assist not to correct length to engage the BCG. Mis-sized recoil springs installed. Nice thing is they have a very good warranty. But man they need more rigorous quality control. Hopefully that has improved?

Those are a small sample out of thousands. With NEA/BCL I bet you are lucky to get a few in spec out of thousands lol. All you have to do is compare the threads.

Even companies like Knight's Armament and Accuracy International let the odd issue slip though. At least with them and Stag the issue is quickly resolved instead of possibly waiting several months or a year if you can even get ahold of them.

Most problems with either platform seem to be primarily with guys who have never owned an AR type rifle before, who don't know how to maintain/lubricate them and/or try to build their own or try to modify a factory rifle without any knowledge on how the rifle works and what parts are actually compatible. Most think these are like AR-15's where all parts should fit, AR-10 has no milspec and there are a few different patterns that manufacturers have followed building them over the years so you have to be very selective on what parts you try to install. Many also don't understand that a semi automatic rifle is not like a bolt action when selecting ammunition. The action was designed for a specific type of ammunition, that means a specific weight range of projectile and a certain powder burn rate. Just because it has a 10 twist doesn't mean you should be shooting 200 grain projectiles trying to shoot 1000 yards. You need to consider a lot more stuff when making mechanical changes to these rifles if you want them to remain reliable.

If you want to see which is a better platform from the factory just browse back through a few pages in this forum and find the multiple threads a day that were started when the 102 was released, nothing but problems for many new owners. A few good ones but a lot more problems than any company should have before they even had 100 rifles in customer hands. Their track record has followed them through the years on this site, they've never had a great reputation with civilian sales (supposedly they sell to some poor military group somewhere). BCL/NEA has earned their reputation and I'm surprised people still risk their hard earned money and health on their products.

Stag 10 issues are few and far between, they have had a few slip through QC but it's not many in comparison to when the 102 was released or even what continues to pop up in threads with 102 issues.

Just got back from the range with my BCL102.

Fired approx 100 rds surplus Canadian, Portugeese and Norinco ammo. Not one single problem to report. Averaging around 2 inch 5 shot groups at 100 metres.

Happy.
