Basically this, but without the price tag?

Definitely do not regret letting mine go. Issue after issue with that thing.
hence his "purely aesthetic point of view" comment
The SLR/MV/CMMG combo would work well, albeit expensive as fk for a "tactical rimfire".
If only the MP15-22 was NR.. the upper/lower don't even remotely match a normal AR15 set... ugh.
The 15-22 is EXTREMELY fun to shoot... sold mine only because it was restricted...
Although not tactical in the modern sense, the STG-44 is calling my name also!
I'd say the "tactical rimfire" and expensive comment is a bit misleading here. Not to try to trash your comment but if you have an SLR/MS in .223 and you put a CMMG kit in it, you still have a .223, just with the option to train/plink on the cheap when you put the CMMG it in. My goal with my MS and CMMG set up was just that, i can carry my MS as a coyote rifle most of the year then pop the cmmg kit in if i want to take a shot at a rabbit or shoot cans etc. It's really the ultimate flexible set up.
Purely from an aesthetic point of view?

OP are you wishing to get something with the same controls/operations as an AR? Or do you want something that looks like an AR?
.
I do have to build on my earlier post. I did own a Mossberg 715T. It was quite accurate at 25m even with the stock sights. In spite of the good accuracy and good look, I found two irritants with it:
1) Takedown was a pain. Lots of screw to remove to take down.
2) Reliability was sub-obtimal. I never had FTE or FTF issues, but the bolt would some time lock open with rounds still in the magazine. I found a way to get rid of the problem: wrap a rubber band around the charging handle. While it fixed the issue, I brought it back to the store. With video proof of the problem, they took it back.
I would not buy again.
