Any 9.3mm (.366) hunters out there?

I have long been a fan of the 9.3 x 64 Brenneke.
Has a little more “ooompf” than the 62 or 74.
Stellar performance on bear and moose with the RWS Tielmantle ( sp?) 286 gr.
IIRC it may also be the only 9.3 legal for use on the big 5 in some African countries.

there is no such a thing as the 9.3x64 the only legal one 9.3 for big 5 ... there is many countries where they put the .375 as a limit where the 9.3 or .366 is indicated the 9.3x62 is reaching it. in Zimbabwe the late Don Heath make the change to be sure the 9.3x62 met the mini for using it.

Looks like im Re-sighting in a 9.3x62 tomorrow........... the decision though, 250 RN or PP..................... :D

The difference in trajectory is small, if started at the same speed, but the PP is a much tougher bullet than the RN. Depending on what the intended target is, you'll have to decide if you want expansion or penetration.

Very popular in Europe, I have owned three over the years. Have one shot kills on deer at 250 yards, moose, bear just under 200.
Site sponsor tradex carries several brands and bullet types & weights. Prvi ammo is cheapest and works great on deer and black bear. I use Federal Cape shok 286 grain for elk hunting. Recoil is around 28lbs with that load and I find it comfortable to shoot even at the range but my rifles are not on the light side.
I consider the 9.3x62 as good for everything I hunt. Tradex carry a number of used and new 9.3x62 rifles and you will see some of coursenon the ee here.

i did not find in my test the PP to be stronger than at least on the speed tested.

I haven't taken much game with the cartridge but have used it on white tailed deer (220gr Lapua Naturalis), moose (235gr Rhino solid shank), red hartebeest (270gr Speer SP) and blue wildebeest (286gr Norma Alaska). Nothing needed a second shot. Its a cool, classic cartridge.

286 grain PPU 9.3x62, works well, knocks elk and deer down well, heavy and not too fast, didn't damage meat like a 300WM, but I'm gonna reload with 250 grain NAB's this season and a little faster.

Have often said the .375s just have such a better spread of bullets than the 9.3s, but the AB and TTSX prove that theory to a large degree wrong.

i thought this too and opted for RN for the bush hunting! i was going to ask that Question also, an also what your thoughts might be on toughness of the 250RN /PP andddd against the 285 Lap mega??

the mega looks like a wikid expander?

For some reason I built a 9.3/375 Ruger a while ago. 23” Benchmark barrel, McMillan stock, in a Ruger MK2 stainless.
Shoots 250gr Barnes with RL 15 really well nearing 2900 FPS. But it hasn’t seen a hunting trip yet which is a shame. I’d like to take it to Africa one day.

I heard this caliber is gaining popularity for hunting. What’s your experience with it?

Gaining? It has been popular for years, just not so much in this country.

Off topic, but part of why it has been less popular is due to the price of many of the European rifles chambered in this caliber. Although people spend 100k on a pickup, 50k on a toy hauler, 30k on a side by side only to piss and moan when a rifle is over $1000, scope more than $500 and ammo more than $20 a box lol

Though I agree on why not own a couple outstanding rifles rather than a safe full of production guns, 9.3s are actually the cheapest group of medium bore hunting rifles thanks to Tradex. Vye for some of the cheapest overall. Ammo is ammo, if you’re into niche stuff you handload or ought to.

Smart move. This way you can hang out with both the .375 Ruger crowd and the .366 Wagner crowd without offending anyone. Nice rifle!

From a Duiker to a Eland in Africa, total of 34 animals between a 9.3x62 and a 9.3 x66. Haven’t used it in North America yet as my go to rifle for home is my 338/06

I haven't tried the Lapua Mega, but I would expect it to be roughly equivalent to the Woodleigh RN of the same weight. There are almost too many good bullets in 9.3mm. I'll never live long enough to use them to the extant that I could prove one is better than another.

I'm fine with a "production" gun. It took me 2 years to get a Sauer 202 in 9.3x62 in Canada with my selected options. If I had ordered a custom gun from a European maker it would have cost a lot more, likely taken longer and required a trip to the manufacturer for fitting.
