Hunting Draws (Province to Province)

BC’s all online for draw hunts these days, best system of all for ease at least.

Or better yet for everything but bison and roosevelt elk just buy an over the counter sheep/goat/elk/moose/caribou tag and hunt an open season zone.

same in Alberta, you can do everything on line including buy your tags. You just need to get a few blank tags and you could even buy your tag while sitting in a treestand.

unless the CO insist on seeing a paper copy of the PDF file that you can log on to your hunter profile and print off anytime.

You should take a good look at the Alberta system, the info is all on line. The demand for the different zones there is no different. To get a moose tag in some zones, you need to be Pri 12 or higher. Other zones are able to buy tags outright because there are fewer applicants than the tags available after the draw is done. So it varies a lot from zone to zone.
Undersubscribed moose tags are pretty much sold out within the first hour when they become available mid-August,the better WMUs sell out online in minutes......but if you do your homework and look at the history,it’s the same WMUs year after year that offer Undersubscribed moose tags.If you really want to hunt moose every year and aren’t afraid to drive 8-12hrs depending upon where in the south you live, just apply for one of those 1/2 dozen+ units and you’ll get drawn every year or every 2nd year if you are unlucky,lol.......or if you are a bowhunter, there’s a couple dozen(?) WMUs that offer OTC archery moose from Aug.25-Sept 17th or 23rd depending on the WMU......only downside is Sept can be brutal hot and you are done before the rut really gets going unless you also have the draw for that unit to continue with either bow or rifle....but I’ve called in bulls 2nd week Sept more then once,as early as the 10th,and many more in the 3rd week up to and including 23rd.
There is so much hunting opportunity in AB a guy would need 4 months and 8 freezers just to fill all the OTC tags available, lol
If I’m not mistaken I think I’ve counted eleven OTC deer tags that one could legally fill every year, plus 2 more if you draw Wainwright?

Lived it for 12 years between Edmonton and Cold Lake. Hunted way North of Red Earth Creek, just about at the end of the road in the area north of the Wabasca river. Or in the closed to trucks area south of Slave Lake.
The day the undersubscribed tags came out was a feeding frenzy on the computers at work! :) Lots of plans being made on the fly!
Last time I added it up the total was closer to 25 deer that you could get, but like you say, lots and lots of travel and some opportunities that do not play nice with the weather.
A fella that complains that he does not have a bunch of deer tags to use, pretty much isn't paying any attention!

I used my Pri 11, IIRC, in a zone that needed a Pri 7 to get drawn, and was able to take a moose out of an area very near home.
Do the antlerless White Tail tags still spit out of the machine in pairs out there?

Yes,still $19 for 2 antlerless supplemental tags, hasn’t changed in the 8 years I’ve lived here, but last few years there’s a lot of units where you can only use your first supp tag,2nd tag is only valid in some WMUs.
I’d be happy with just one anyway, and I don’t even buy them if I get an elk or moose, but now that my boy is old enough to hunt last couple years I just buy them for him so he can whack a doe if he wants and keep hunting for a buck.
