Hello,

So when I take down my PC carbine and re insert barrel my bolt randomly snaps closed as I start to insert and twist barrel into place. Its somehow makes the bolt catch fail about 1 time out of 3. Attempts on a consistent bases. Man another ruger off to warrenty I expect...

It’s random on mine too. Boils down to how much force happens when you jar the barrel onto the receiver. Causes the bolt catch to hop for a fraction of a second. Causes the bolt to release. I reattach it gently, no issue. Or just put your forefinger on the bolt catch lever while reassembling.

Hmmm...seems to be a design flaw. Not sure if I should send in or not. Is this happening to anyone else?

Not much of a design flaw. Assemble and disassemble gently and it shouldn’t be an issue. Any firearm with the bolt held open and no magazine will send the bolt forward if it’s jarred in the right way or with enough force. Except the 10-22, which has a locking bolt hold open.

I don't bother using the bolt hold open when installing or removing the barrel so I'm not sure if mine has an issue or not.
I find it pretty easy to simply pull the bolt back a bit with the hand that is holding the receiver while I take it down..... I guess one work around for you if you need to use the hold open might be to engage the hold open with an empty magazine and see if that solves your issue.

I did call snapshots and he first said it's not possible and then tried to tell me some info about the 10/22 that was irrelevant and finally told me try and fire a few hundred rounds and see if it still happens. Not that firing rounds would help in my eyes. I then tried to call ruger in the USA and they referred me back to snapshots for all my questions...really no one was any help at all

It's probably easier to train yourself to not use the mag hold when changing barrels rather then deal with snapshots.

Rugers dont have a warrenty in canada, they have a 7 month storage location.

If you cant buy the parts of places like brownels its probably going to stay broken for at least 6 months if not over a year.

Mine will dump off the bolt catch as well... just put an empty mag in it... problem solved

I see thx I'm beginning to believe you. I have a mini 14 that wasn't extracting coming back from snapshot..we will see how they did...

Ruger told me its normal for bolt to snap closed when applying barrel today through email which is ridiculous but so be it

The firearm is not designed in any way to make this happen or not. It’s not a proper function in the way you would normally load and fire the rifle so I do not see why this is a issue or safety concern. You don’t put a cartridge in the chamber of the barrel before you insert the barrel do you because that would definitely be an issue. —-Dieseldog!
