Hi there! I have an 870 tactical that I bought used but very low rounds...
I added Magpul stock and forend... also a Remington 2 round extention and a Nordic components follower...

I just can not get it to cycle anymore...

Put 6 or 8 rounds in ...pump one into the chamber and the first will fire fine...
but then the pump jams and wont come back without excessive force.
Same with every round after that.

I pulled it apart and cleaned it... same results after
I re-dremilled the dimples in the magazine tube and checked the movement of the spring and follower but that all seems fine.

I'm thinking I must have screwed up something with the bolt or carrier?
Ugh.... Hoping someone has the solution on here...

I only ask because it wasn't written, but you got an extended spring as well, correct?

When it jams, do you have to pull a round out?

Lastly, does it only have this issue with ammo? Will it cycle fine without it?

Did you check your fired shell around the brass for scratch like marks. Maybe there's a burr in your chamber. It may expand a bit in the chamber and catch on something. Or cheap shells sticking.

Take the plus 2 off and try it as it originally was. If it works it's not the bolt. Cheap low brass shells will be hard to eject too

I had a similar, but brief, problem with an 870 Express. Mine was the result of removing the trigger group and putting a scope saddle on for deer season with the rifled barrel and then taking it off for bird use with the smooth. Trigger pins weren’t seating properly so it was binding up. Took everything apart and put it back together with extra care and it worked fine. That is until I stupidly dickered around with it again the following year. Then the action would lock forward and firing pin would drop for round one, but not for any subsequent rounds. It just slides back and forth like I have the release down all the time. It now sits at the bottom of the ‘project pile’

Yes has the extended spring, When it jams I have to use a lot of force but it will pump it out..
Cycles fine with out ammo....

Can you try it with "dummy" rds? or in a range setting, all down range with live rds just cycling the ammo?
How old or new is the shotgun? and does it have the "Flexitab" feature?

Yes! I saw a couple guys with that issue on youtube with the trigger pins not seating and having the same issue as me.
I ran out of time to play with it tonight but will tear down and look it all over saturday.

I have dummy rounds but they were cheap-o Ebay china crap and seem to be getting chewed up on the brass...
I'm not sure if that's a ####ty ammo thing or a gun thing at this point.

I'll do a complete teardown and re-assemble Saturday morning and hit the range again...

I'll have to look into the flexutab thing... Not sure. Gun is a few years old but was a safe queen... (Shot fine when I got it thought)

This sounds like the known 870 issue with the ring near where the rim of the shell sits. The extractor causes the edge of the shell to push into the ring that is present in some barrels. This happens after firing and causes cycling to become extremely difficult. YouTube it. It's an easy fix. I used a dremel and buffed the ring out, as well as used fine steel wool to polish the chamber with a drill. Never had an issue since.

Are the action bars bent inward at all? I briefly had this happen with an 870 clone, the action bars of the forend assembly were bent inward just enough that they would jump past the shell stop and out of the receiver rails making it really hard to rack or worse and jam up the whole action. Once I realized what was going on I slightly bent the bars outward which solved the issue, it’s something simple to check and rule out. Otherwise you should inspect the shell latches to see if they are still staked in securely, they can cause feeding issues as well.

If you have a problem to extract the first fired shell, so you have a problem inside the chamber of the barrel.
If you can easily cycle the gun with no ammunition, again something is wrong inside your barrel.

Yes, I watched a couple video's of how to fix this issue this morning.
If I have time i'll dremel it on my lunch break.

The other one thing to try in my experience with 870's is try pushing the forend forward when pulling the trigger. I know it sounds weird but just try it.

Have been down this road SO many times, it seems when there is any backward force on the slide it jams up. And that was first me polishing the ever living sh!t out of the chamber, polishing the slide rods, high brass, low brass, different ammo manufactures, and the list goes on.

And had this with multiple 870's (I have a lot of them) and once I paid attention to this I had noticeably less issues.
