Hi Gents,

So I've got this idea about turning my Stag-10 GI MLOK into a classic A2 configuration, but I'll just say right off the bat I'm an AR novice; I am familiar with all the philosophy of use from being in the army 15 years ago but we didn't build them, we just used them haha.

As far as I understand the Stag 10 is mostly DPMS compatible, but I'm having very little luck online sourcing an A2 style handguard, barrel nut, and front sight/gasblock. Here is where my ignorance enters and I'm looking for some advice. Will an AR15 A2 handguard work, or does the barrel profile on a Stag 10 prevent using any AR15 furniture? A simpler question might be; does anyone know a source for an AR10 A2 handguard, barrel nut and front sight?

A friend of mine built a Stag 10, he first set it up with a pair of M16A1 triangular handguards, then switched those out to A2 handguards. So you don't need special purpose, AR-10 sized parts, you will be using standard furniture. Ditto the front sight base (FSB), you need to make sure the barrel has a journal long enough to accomodate a fixed FSB, then buy an AR-15 FSB that fits your journal diameter (0.625" or .750"). Then the FSB is mounted with either a round or triangular handguard front support ("handguard cap") placed in behind. It will also be a standard AR-15 part.

I do think he had to do some work to either the barrel nut or the handguard retainer ring so that they fit together. That was the only customization required.
 
The profile isn't as much of a problem, but as mentioned above the gas system will be. Armalite designed their commercial AR10s with a slightly longer dimension from the shoulder of the barrel (where the barrel extension mates) to the gas port. It needed to be made longer to use standard A2 hand guards, along with a different barrel nut and delta ring/hand guard slip ring that was dimensioned properly for the larger thread on the receiver, and to keep the hand guard captive

You'll have to source the barrel and the new hand guard slip ring if you want to do it.

At some point i had the same idea for my stag while i was ordering all the parts i wanted (got the receiver set) put went at the end with a quad rail
This is what i found:
Any A2 AR15 handguard will fit on the stag and the barrel specs should be as other said.

BUILD UPDATE! The parts have arrived! Went with a Faxon 20'' Big Gunner barrel. Can't wait to get it assembled!

I can only imagine the confusion on the C.O. that might stop you for a compliance check while legally hunting with that ...LOL
