Hey Guys;

My buddy is looking at the Benelli Super Black Eagle and the Winchester X3. The Benelli is significantly more money, is it worth it? Does that inertia system they have in the Benelli work well?

Anyone got anything to say about the Winchester X3?

The gun will be used mostly for hunting, but occasionaly for clays.

I threw the Beretta in for harv3489... Bring it on guys!!!

Thanks

Cheers
Jay

I've never owned a Winchester X3, but I have owned a Benelli M2 - I have a preference for the simplistic design of the Benelli system (so simple).

The only drawback is the Benelli might have more felt recoil and it "may" have a harder time digesting really light loads (clays), otherwise everything else is a plus for the Benelli.

Same here with no SX3 experience. My SBE was a great gun and still going strong with new owner. Always regretted selling my first Super 90 so currently have a M1 Super 90 which replaced my SBE as I had no real use for the 3.5 shells.

Purchased a Benelli SuperSport this year and they are a gem. So nothing but good to say about my Benelli experiences.

Yes they cost more but the old addage " you get what you pay for ". They have proven themselves which the SX3 hasn't.

How bout we throw the Beretta Extrema 2 into this....any experience with it?

I just purchased on and can't wait to get out to use it on some geese.

My hunting partner has the SX2 I think and never had a problem with it.

I just (last week) bought the Benelli SBE II and I put 100 rounds through it a couple of nights ago to try it out. I love this gun...the recoil is really not that bad at all. I was shooting Remington Nitro 2 3/4" Number 8's 1 1/8th ounce loads. The gun never jammed once and performed flawlessly. The troubles with the Benelli's inertia system is on loads around the 1 ounce or under 1 ounce load....

I was shooting doubles from opposing traps and the gun was really fast getting back on target. My SBE II came with a hardshell case and all 5 choke tubes as well as a small bottle of oil and choke tube tool.

The one I picked up had a 26" barrell and "swung" very nicely and just seemed to fit me right. Another note on fit the Benelli comes with a shim kit to adjust the gun to fit you properly.

Bass Pro has the camo version on sale at the moment (which is what I bought although not from Bass Pro) for $1799.00 and they are throwing in a floating gun case and blind bag from Drake Waterfowl I think.

Here's a Benelli promo video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ibBgBhwafGM
with Tom Knapp and Tim Bradley showing off .

The Beretta Extrema comes with the same things, chokes, shim kit, wrench, oil and hard case.

The one thing I found out reading some reviews was that the Benelli receiver is made out of aluminum and was showig wear from the metal bolt. Where as the Beretta was machined steel and said to be built like a tank to last forever.

I hadn't heard that about the Benelli myself though I may post a question over at the Benelli forums to find out what other's who have owned one longer have experienced.

I can't comment on the Winchester. I own an Extrema and love it. It is a tank, cycles 1oz loads, soft recoil, fits me perfect. My buddy has a SBE2 and loves it. It is also a tank, cycles very reliably, little more kick but less weight, short for me but fits him perfect. IMO they are equal in quality and reliablity but are pretty different. They both get you where you want to be but they take a different path...and you do get what you pay for.

I've used Benelli's in the past and watching friends clean their's up after a weekend of duck hunting is what convinced me to go the Benelli route. Thus avoiding the whole mess (which really isn't that bad to be honest) of cleaning a gas operated gun.

I have a Benelli M1 90...but would happily take a Beretta Extrema 11 ...I like the recoil spring exposed on the mag tube. Like gas operation ...don't need 3.5" chambers though

you cant go wrong with any of them, the benelli is a proven reliable work horse that is very simple in design , the winchester is a cosmetically reworked browning gold with essentially the same gas system, which for gas guns is one of the most reliable and jam free, in fact if you are going to be doing a lot of trap or skeet shooting you can purchase an extra active valve designed for the lighter loads and is simple to change, if you want a gun with less recoil go with a browning gold or winchester

I have a Benelli M2 as I don't see the need for 3 1/2 shells (3 inch is fine for geese). Not a bit of a problem anywhere. When I bought it a year ago, it was a tossup with the Beretta Extrema 2, but the Benelli was a touch lighter and swins a bit easier.

Did you guys realize that Beretta owns Benelli?

..and Sako, Tikka, Franchi, Uberti, Stoeger, Burris, & Mechanica del Sarca (not to mention dozens of brands that these companies manufacture for). If you buy guns, you're going to do business with Beretta sooner or later - and why not? They make great products and stand behind them.
