Went yesterday to do some group tests after a previous ladder test.

Well, to say the least I was astonished at my 4-6 MOA results.

Did my ladder test previously with H1000 and 7828 , settled on 7828 , it looked more in tune with my combo than the H1000 , so loaded up a few charges at what I felt was in and around an accuracy node.

Took 4 different charge weights, preparing to shoot a couple 3 shot groups to settle on a charge , didn't like at all the results, nor was there any consistency other than the fact I was on an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper each time.I was better during the ladder test at a further distance!!!

Hornady Brass, 215M primer, 180gr Gameking. Vanguard with VX-Freedom , all new.

Been reloading for what seems like a fairly long time, just once in a while things don't click , I was actually very happy with the initial ladder test as this is my preferred starting method and was quite confident things would go smoothly and with good results.

Some days just suck more than others.

I've had good luck with the powders you mention but also IMR4831 and Reloader 17 and 22. For my 180 gr Barnes TTSX the most a consistent and accurate powder in my rifle (CZ550) has been IMR4831.

180gr TTSX, H100V 67.8gr, Rem 9 1/2 is what I use in a factory savage 22" stainless heavy barrel 1 in 10 twist. It's sub load moa @ 100y. Latter tested Barnes 200gr LRX with H1000 and worst was definitely larger 2.5moa best was 1.5. Found the gain in recoil and loss of accuracy wasn't worth the cost of development.

Good luck in your endeavours. At $50/lb for powder and at least as much again for 50 projectiles it's a hard pill to swallow when things don't go as well as they do on paper.

I used Retumbo and 7828SSC before settling on H1000. Good velocity, excellent accuracy, and low temperature sensitivity. IMR 7828 was as accurate as the H1000...until the temperature changed! I'm shooting 200gr ELD-X bullets. 1:10 twist Savage 116.

I've been using IMR 7828 with 200 grain bullets ( Speer Grand Slams,Speer Spitzers and Nosler Accubonds ) and IMR 4831 with 165 and 180 grain Speer Grand Slams and Hornady Interlocks.

My 61 year old younger brother in Grande Cache and his hand-loading mentor use IMR 4350 for their 180 grain 300 Win Mag - Basically right out of the Speer #14 manual. That started, mostly because it was available, easily and dependably. They set up cardboard and plywood out to 600 or more yards (lasered) on a cut-line to work out their drops. Between them, many very nice elk and sheep taken!! And the odd wolf, whitetail, mule deer and moose ...

My go to powder use to be IMR 7828 with 180-200 gr bullets, but lately I've been using RL-26 and been getting good accuracy and great velocity. Only problem with RL-26 is finding the stuff..

If H1000 doesnt work in a .300 I’m more likely to change bullets than powders. If that doesn’t work I reason that if I’m going to change powders it may as well be a real change like all the way to 4831 instead of the closest possible thing in a different brand.

Theres always the chance that the rifle just doesnt shoot if you dont have a past history with it shooting well with something else. With an unknown rifle with a unknown scope with unknown loads its a bit of trick to assign blame.

I’d be pretty suspicious of a .300 Win that won’t shoot with H1000 and Sierras.

Yup and yup and yup.

Just ran the cleaning rod through it and took off the stock to double check things, the actions screws weren't "tight" but they weren't falling out loose either.

I'll give it another go on the weekend with the H1000 and 7828 , if that fails I'm going to my accuracy powder H4350 , it has never failed me, that no go, I'll order my Swifts as usual!

I have been using IMR 7828 SSC with very good results. Going back through my notes i came across loads with IMR 4350. They shoot a bit more accurately than with IMR 7828. Either load is accurate but I will go with IMR 4350 if I can get it.

It's not exotic and there are slower newer powders that will squeeze out a bit more speed but my go to powder in the 300winmag is still imr4350 with 165 and 180gr bullets. Haven't found a rifle yet that didn't like that combination.
