Hi Guys,

I was just reading a "rave" review in one of the gun rags from the late nineties about this rifle...whatever happened to them?

Jeff/1911.

Marlin has never had much success in building or marketing a bolt action rifle. The MR7 had some real potential but just couldn't find a place in the market. Regards, Bill

Marlin = mostly lever actions and doing well.
Remington = mostly bolt actions and is doing well.
Savage produced both, dropped the lever and is doing well.
Winchester produced both to the end and then went under. :D

.

They were excellent rifles, but in a market flooded with good bolt rifles, I think Marlin needed to push them for a bit longer than the couple of years they were available. Shooters can be unbelievably cautious about new rifles and cartridges. They'll wait to see if they "catch on" before they buy, and if the company cannot or will not wait out the adjustment/familiarization period, they'll kill the design. Then we can all say "Waaaaaaahhhh! I was gonna buy one of those .356 Marlin 336ER's any day now!"
Oh wait...that's me!

They ran into patient problems from both Winchester and Browning. That ended it.

A Remington bolt head,Winchester safety and trigger, and the Browning mag box.We have one,it's heavier than even my M-70.
