Plug in soldering iron.
Wait for hot.
Stab at grips repeatedly with hot.
Repeat until stippled.

Really. About all there is to it.

Practice on anything that you won't cry over, first. To get a feel for the timing of the pokes, as well as getting an idea about the patterns to use that please you.

Lots of temperature controlled soldering irons on eBay! Different shaped tips, too, for really cheap!

Or dremel with ball end. I did my IZH35M grips. Just need patience.

Fingers grooves done first, with a drill press and sanding drums equal diameter to my fingers.

Ask around and find some A2 grips that everyone replaces on their rifles. Practice practice practice.
