I thought that might be the case, I wonder if they switched over to the new style plug when they went with the new spring retainer and dimples? The plastic retainer is thicker than the old press in metal spring retainer iirc, I bet the old green plug can’t fit inside the new plastic retainer.

I suspect it was around 2010, as I haven't bought a new 870 since then was unaware of the change. I believe it was mentioned earlier in this thread that the dimples have been a feature since the late 80's or early 90's.
