The New .22 Competition Craze

crps2019g.jpg

CRPS is LR PRS and a ton of fun. Lots of rifles are competitive in this game at all price points.

Pic from Merritt July 28, 19... pic credit Rick K's camera.

Then there are all sorts of local series both short and long range. Yep, the sport is growing.

I love running and competing in these. It is cheap and challenging. You can simulate a lot of situations very easily without massive distance available

I'm definitely having fun with my 457. I've got the distance for long range 22 shooting but it's time for me to get out the ladder and practice from that platform.

Speaking about ammo Jerry..
Important part it 22lr at long range, to say the least.
I like the eley hollow point for gophers .. have yet to try the new federal match follow point..
My guestion , Wwwwhy did the federal Match ammo discontinue.
Federal ultra match was the cats meow..
The later of the 2 was more affordable. And accurate. In mine
What's the next entry level ammo that dosent hurt the visa

It was likely that meager sales didn't justify continued production. The makers which specialize in match ammo also held such a large part of the market share . A new player didn't offer anything new or innovative - the dimple base had been used by Russia two decades previously.

Anymore then launching a big slug to 6km?

I think there needs to be a lot of refinement in the ELR rimfire game... right now, it is definitely spray and pray as distances reach WAY out. But testing will prove if that can change... stay tuned.

Same idea but with no ear muffs, recoil and barrel life that is more than 2 bricks lol

We've been running weekly practice nights and about one match a month here in Saskatoon. Hosted by the Saskatoon Wildlife Federation. Definitely enjoying it, good clean fun with guns.

Simple... the market wouldn't accept it. the Oly rimfire world is dominated by Euro products. For better or worst, competitors didn't want to take the risk of using a product early in its development and risk a podium. Without that market to consume, advise and develop, there was no point in trying to manufacture.

Its like F1... you don't get a learning curve. First race, $100 million... and maybe the lead lap.

US brands support the recreational and hunting market... more is consumed on a Sunday then all the Olympics can do in how many years?

The best value in "match" rimfire is CCI SV.... in case quantities. Many will practise and some will compete with it. To 100yds, it rocks in many rifles.... beyond that, invest in better ammo.

My goal is to see if I can get accurate fire to at least 500m... from there, we will see.

Reached 350m very accurately in light winds.... 400m was getting tired.... not so sure on 425m.

More testing to follow

PS... the 10/22 McGowen barrel rocked at the CRPS match in Merritt.

anyone from ontario wanting to try their hands at this should come out to the Simcoe Muskoka shoot on august 24th. get your feet wet without big cost or pressure, try out some rifle setups as almost everyone wants to let someone else shoot their guns. really makes for an inclusive day filled with learning. before my first match with scuba i had no idea what i really needed and entered with a plain cross hair reticle scope and some bulk 22 ammo. after that first match, i really found out what was required in a rifle and in the guys squeezing the trigger.

I use to shot Fed gold match in my Sako p94 finfire , at 250, it was min. of gopher, still have some.
Mind you I found cheap old Fed 525 bulk pack quite good, still shoot a bit in my Hi-Standards.
1000 yrds with 22 rimfire is something I have never tried, or even thought possible
