Hi, can someone make me a modified case for the Hornady OAL gauge please?
I would gladly pay for it.
We'd just need to discuss at what headspace we will set it.

It's a chicken or the egg situation here, i'd like to know how long to load my ammo to fire the first one.

If I am referring to the Hornady 308 one, I just used the one that Hornady sells, which is 2 thous shorter than the 1.630'' SAAMI in headspace.
Which is perfect really.

In reality I only need a 6.5x47L modified case no matter what the headspace, I can account for the difference afterwards.

For sure you can just subtract the difference. No big deal at all.

5 guys could measure the jump to the lands and get 5 different results. It's not really an exact measurement so much as it is a reference #.
As long as you take the measurement the same way each time that's all that matters.

For the first one I would load 1 initial cartridge to SAAMI/recommended length at a lower/safe powder charge for the bullet you plan to use. Fire it, drill and tap it, then use that one case as your modified case. That way it is representative of your chamber and you will get the most accurate way of measuring to your lands. The headspace in your chamber likely isn't exactly SAAMI.
You can get a tap from Amazon, 5/16 x 36 tpi RH.

Better off using a sized case so it's shouldering off the shoulder and not wedging in on the body taper. You then need to expand the neck so it doesn't grip the bullet, a body die works if you have one. Use a comparator to set your bump and you know your headspace isn't crazy.

Since you are using it for a reference, and shooting based on what you measure, it's all relative. If you measure what you think is your 'touch' and then load ammo up based on that and determine what your most accurate seat depth is, measuring your loaded ammo off the ojive is much more consistent and will be the value you use anyway.

Yeah seems like I could fire one and get the tap and die kits to make my own.
It's ok as I made that choice like an adult, but a bit frustrating finding stuff for this caliber.

Going from 308 where everything is available to 6.5x47L there is a huge difference in tool availability.
Simple stuff like a headspace gauge and a Lee collet die are irritating to find right now.

Funny, i just bought a letter L drill bit on Amazon, and they asked do you want a 5/16-36 tap with this?
I also emailed PTG,
I am getting there gentlemen!

Just Lee thats a bit retarded right now not wanting to make me a 6.5x47 Lapua collet die without a sample of a bullet and a casing,
They could just do like all calibers and run the numbers off the spec sheets
