Any Mini 30 fans?

Loving my mini 30. it can hunt, it can plink, it can shoot cheap ammo (not surplus), its easy to take down and clean, its small and handy, low recoil and my newer model is actually accurate. I shoot S&B and Hornady SST.....Get solid results.

Note: Ruger recommends against using 'non-domestic' (ie cheap surplus) ammo - the mini likes regular primers not the hard ones. You will have FTF issues if you run cheap foreign junk thru the rifle. So buy an SKS if you want to shoot cheapo surplus. Enjoy!

or just buy an after market firing pin and hammer spring..... problem solved, the issue is not enough firing pin protrusion to set off the slightly deeper military primers, typically 7.62 x 39 firing pins have 40 thou or greater protrusion, often around 50 thou
Mini 30s typically have 30- 37 thou....

I had fun with mine... got it running very good, got bored, sold it.

5/20 mags are here :)

Owned a Mini-30 back in the late 80's. Put thousands of Chinese surplus down the pipe without a single issue. That was when they were fun with 30 round magazines. Reliable would be an understatement.

Took mine out yesterday, 200 rds chinese corrosive steel case, no issues.

Cleaning isn't quite as easy as a vz 58 but not far off. If I didn't know any better I'd say the barrel was chrome lined from how easily it cleaned.

The one thing that annoyed me was adjusting the windage on the irons, very difficult and frustrating to be honest, and I have owned and sighted in a lot of rifles. Might get the tech sight if I can find it anywhere.

I think I'll have to do a video review on it, its begging for one. Accuracy wasn't stellar with irons but I want to wait until I throw a scope on next time before I say how she can shoot. Not to mention the ammo I was shooting was literally the cheapest lowest quality you can get. I'll have to find some hornady sst steel case and test that out.

I had a Mini 30 that shot 2 MOA. I loved it but sold it when I needed money. I couldn’t justify keeping it at the time because I had a scoped SKS that shot equally good.

Hey, can I ask what the other rifle is in your picture?

The stock mini rear sight is horrible to adjust, I purchased tech sights immediately after adjusting the stock sights.

I'd like to add a mini30 some day, take it black bear hunting.

Just saw a mini 30 go at auction for cheap ..... should have taken a more serious stab at getting it.

Are the new mini 30’s better in accuracy nowadays like the newer MINI-14’s are?

How is mag availability?

Yes, the Mini-30 benefited the same update at the same time than the Mini-14. Between the 2 models most parts are the same, same barrel profile, etc.

Mini-30 mags aren't too hard to find. You want to stick to oem mags for reliability. As expensive as the Mini-14 mags. NRM usually have them in stock.

A friend brought is brand new 30 at the farm, i thought it shot good, of the picnick table ( 85 metres range) i was grouping very good with surplus, i was surprised, it was 1.5-2.5 MOA easy, guess they have been improved.:)

boss of mine picked one up years ago and i have been stalking it for years.
i finally got it off him a month or so ago.
exactly the same as my mini14 just shooting a bit bigger ammo of course.

only mod ive done is put it back on its original stock, he had it on a ATI stock.
i would like to pick up a wood stock for it but i decided before i picked it up i was not going to do anything to this one.
(my mini 14 i did EVERYTHING too, accustrut, stock, optics ect ect ect)

so for my mini 30 (stainless) all ive done to it is pick up a bunch of mags.
couple 5 rounds ones (Ruger)
couple 5/20 round ones (Ruger)
and 3x 3/30 round KCI ones.

i think im going to pick up a scope for it, just a simple plinking scope and that is all im going to do for it, unless i can find a wood stock, i think id like to put it on a wood stock if the opportunity should come.

as for price, my Boss picked it up brand new from the LGS for $820 about 10 years ago.
i got it off him for $700 and he probably didnt even put a box of ammo through it.

I just picked up an extra wooden stock for Mini-14/ 30 with the interior metal (good condition) with a bundle purchase at an auction on Saturday. I have no need for this stock and if you are interested send me a pm as I just want to get rid of it. Phil.
