I have a Winchester SXP Defender. 18" barrel, fixed improved cyl choke. I am thinking of getting it threaded so I can use my Invector Plus chokes coming from my 28" barrel. How much improvement in pattern should I expect if I decide to get the barrel threaded for a choke. I know that the Winchester SXP Marine Defender (hard chrome finish I think) comes with 3 chokes. Is it worth spending about $ 100 to prep this 18" barrel for a choke?

Good idea. The only concern is, the threaded barrel with interchangeable choke is hard chrome, mine is matte black. And Winchester does not list a threaded 18" barrel as an option. They have the 28" barrel available. Anyway, thank you for your input.

You probably cant have it threaded for Invector plus because they are overbored chokes. You will need to have your barrel measured to see what the OD is and how thick the barrel walls are. That is how they will determine what chokes can be used. Then you will be at the mercy of what tooling that particular smith has.

As mentioned, you will have to have a smith measure it with something other then a Vernier Caliper. But for the sake of the conversation, my Inv+ chokes measures in at 21.02 OD and my barrel measures at 22.75mm at the flare. It would seem to me that based on the measurements you provided, it could possibly be doable if there is a smith with the proper Inv+ tooling.

However, one thing really sticks out. Your measurements would indicate that your barrel wall thickness is 2.36mm. That seems quite a bit high to me. If the measurements are correct, that has to be one thick a$$ piece of tube

Thank you!

It sounds thick because of the finish. It is a matte cerakote like non-glare coating. I just don't have a Micrometer to do a more precise measurement.
