Just wondering what kind of sling do you prefer on your sporting rifle or shotgun?

All of my guns have slings and most are equipped with 1" wide leather "military" style slings (1" wide along the entire length). I do have one rifle with a leather "cobra" style sling, with the word Winchester and a buck head on it (you've all seen one like it;))

I like the butler creek "neoprene" type ones. They have a lot of give to them for walking and so far have stood up to a lot of use. One of them have the shell loops on it which is handy on a rifle w/o a detachable mag as you always have shells handy to load with. Don't keep it full while hunting as the weight of swinging shells makes it harder to hold steady from a standing position.

Personally, I like the wide 'Cobra' style leather slings. Makes for easy shoulder carry as the weight is distributed and also relatively slip free. Very comfortable...

ditto. I wish they would make one that had the more classic appeal instead of almost tactical. They don't fit the Genre of my firearms at all but are so comfortable I have to just overlook that.

Davey will never leave it alone though...

most of my rifles wear the standard "military" sling with the brass hooks, or some other kind of 1'' leather sling. More often than not though, I dont have one mounted on the rifle.

You might as well paint your stocks black so they can look "tactical" as well ;)

Spandex pants might be comfortable, maybe you should try it out too :p :puke:

Uncle Mikes Mountain sling.
Nice, light, and won't slip off your shoulder.

Or maybe one of super wide, superthick slings with the embossed whitetail on it:D

What sling that allows you to carry your rifle in front of you, sights up and at the ready? I find if I'm doing a lot of walking, I shuffle the rifle all around, left right, up down, trying to keep it handy, but fighting the fatigue of it.

On a wood-stocked gun, I like the look of a leather sling. Synthetic stocks look better with a synthetic sling IMO.

I bought a nylon web sling in the mid-1990's, but the darn webbing made a faint but annoying squeaking sound as as I walked (no it wasn't the swivels making the squeak). I have been suspicious of nylon web slings ever since:D

the one that I picked up afew years ago and now love, is the remington all rubber sling. It bounces nicely when you are packing it, less shock to the shoulder (esp with the heavy rifles), it doesnt absorb any rain, relatively light weight, it clings to your body well, and when you shoot, you can stretch it a bit and it really helps with the sighting as the front of the rifle is under a bit of tension (as much as you would like really)

i dont even know if they sell them anymore, but I switch it from rifle to rifle.

I've used the "Booniepacker Safari "slings for about 10 years now..It allows you to carry the rifle out front style accross your chest at any height you wish, and just lift up and shoot or you can carry it the conventional way on your shoulder.

Comes in black or realtree camo..about 2 inches wide..easily adjustable.. synthetic /nylon type material . Great when on M/C or atv for front carry too in the bush. Costs $25 and is impervious to rain/mud /snow etc. Allows those that hunt with heavy guns or varmint rigs to walk all day with the weight over both shoulders not just one. Like em enough to own 4 of them.
