300 WM Vanguard, 212 ELD-X , three powders, time to look at gun?

The sun is up; have you shot that thing yet?

It'll be tomorrow, I was up at 5 and we have a slight hurricane with and rain on the way, tomorrow morning I will be out , so, I'm making a brisket instead! ;)

So what I have is 6 loads ready to try..........

178 ELD X with H1000 , 76gr and 78gr
180 SGK with H1000 , 76gr and 78gr
212 ELD X with Retumbo , 78gr and 80gr

If I get more of the same after the bedding job , this will be a project action and I'll find another 300 in the meantime, I suppose a 6.5 x 300WM in a Vanguard wouldn't be an awful thing to have either. :)

Not exactly reassuring.

Appears to be unchanged with the bullets I previous tried.

Th 178 ELD-X look almost better as I never tried them before , but overall nothing changed

This is after the rifle has been bedded?

I had a 22 Hornet that would not group. I did everything to it, including bedding, bullets, and powders.

One day it shot very tight groups. When I got home I pulled some bullets to verify the load data. I had mis-measured the powder charge on my beam scale. I had loaded too light.

Have you tried lighter and hotter than usual loads?

Yes , bedding was done last week.

I didn’t go extreme on either end of the scale although some of my larger charges were over max in some manuals.

Even added a bit to the pressure point just to make sure it had adequate pressure.

I’m confident in my charges.

1:12 should shoot a 180gr Sierra just fine though...doesn't make much sense

Try some 165/168gr nosler ballistic tips and RL19 or RL22. If that doesn't work she's hooped

I will measure the twist but I’m pretty sure it’ll be the factory 10”.

Going any lighter than I currently am testing would kind of defeat the intended purpose for the rifle.

Still would have a donor action I suppose. Its not my first dud.

It doesn't look like your scope is loose. Assuming that you have checked that? have you tried Nosler ballistic tip or an SST? Some other bullets that are not long like ELDX is?

Yeah i was going to suggest to look at scope/rings/bases.
My 325 wsm originally shot like that , upon inspection a base screw had loosened - after dealing with that, the rifle grouped.
The 178-78 target looks the best of the lot - maybe try repeating it 0.3 grains up and down and see what happens

One "lucky" group out of the 20 or more I've done doesn't give me enough confidence in the rifle to try other load or continue, I unfortunately think it may have to go to pasture.

If you still have the other Vanguards, try switching stocks to see if that is the problem.
Have any other scopes you can mount in it?
