HELP!!! Need Proofmark Help

I need someone with a Belgian or some European Proof Mark book

Its and L with a little Star over it.

Someone got a proof mark book.

Capital L with a tiny star right over the top!

Dingus...ive got lots of info on belgian proof marks. I'll take a look and get back to you. If i remember correctly off the top of my head the L or any letter for that matter with a star over it was the stamp of the poerson that did the proof test...like i said i'll double check and get back to you.

Thanks Eh! heres a picture of the L with the star.
I have only seen it on belgian guns (very few) but they have the Pre 1893 Belgian proof mark as well the ELG in and Oval as can also be seen on this pic!
I want to know what it meens and if it to Changed after 1893 like the ELG in and Oval.
Post 1893 Ovals with ELG have a crown ontop of the Oval.

Its the L with the star i need info on.

I think the star was added sometime in the 1880's. If i recall correctly the Brithish system requred the star above the initial of the verifier. Im not sure if it changed later on like the leige mark...i dont think so.

Anyways, ive seen a few belgians with star over S and others with star over P.

Prior to the ELG marking and these star over a letter marks they had a general proof used for everything...the frame, each chamber of the cylinder, barrel ect. here's a pic...this was used in the 1860's for sure.

heres another one, same time period as yours...star over K or R this time...its kinda tough to read.

I think you might be right about the letter is the guy who proofs the guns Cylinder cause thats where ya find the Letters tho ive seen Ls with stars on barrel sides to.

I havent found a L with a star on a Post 1893 Marked gun yet!

That frist pic ya posted is a British proof mark. I got lots of info on British stuff but not the Belgian ones.

My book,Baldersons gunmarks 3rd edition shows them as inspector's mark. The ones shown are * overN * overA ,and * over AE.Your inspector was "L" JITC

british you say...its on a belgian pinfire revovler...

I know that i read that the star over a letter is the initial of the person that did the testing (inspectors marks)...i just cant find where i read it now.

If that first mark is british could you pm me and send the info you have on british marks... i have some info on belgian stuff but none on british.

Found it L Spangled (star is a spangle) counter mark of the controller of use 1877 to 1968

I will have to look that British mark up Sportee but im 99.9 % sure its a birmingham proof.
I will get the Book tommorrow and let ya know.

Sportee!!! its shows it as the reign of queen anne in my book!
Its hard to tell as theres lots of proofs like that but yours looks like a sword and and Arrow crossed wqith that top part.
The belgians would send there guns to englands to have them proffed at london proof houses.
theres Belgian Pryses that have british proof marks as well.
