Tikka t1x or Ruger Precision .22? Piggy bank is getting close to one of them.

I have never owned a Ruger that could hang with any Tikka, Remington, or even a Savage. I`ve bought and tried several Rugers over the years and couldn`t get rid of them fast enough
as not one of them was what I would consider accurate.

Can I request that you shoot two 10 shot groups at 100y or 100m, and post pic of the target like you did above? Also can you mention what ammo you are using?
 
RPR 22lr, Shaw 18" SS barrel, Eley Club ammo, aluminum tape bedded, 100m, prone bipod rear bag. Bottom left group is 9 shots, rest are 10 shots. Top left is a different shooter that was new to the gun, but a good shooter.

Another vote for the Tikka. I have one with a 16” barrel and it shoots less than 1/2” groups at 50 yards all day using cheap CCI stand velocity ammo. I own a few Tikka rifles and have never been disappointed. Lots of options out there for scope bases. I have a Area 419 20MOA base on mine as I shoot it out past 200 yards.
 
The 1/2” club is very light on Tikka T1x entries.... The rifles are still very new on the market and copies sold haven’t yet reached too deeply in the market, hence, I’m not surprised that there are few entries..... There just aren’t many T1x rifles in people’s hands yet.

Mine shoots 0.4” at 50 yards all day long but I have not as yet submitted targets to the 50 yard club. In any event, my customized Ruger 10/22 is sporting a good Volquartsen stainless auto-match barrel but it struggles to get and stay inside 1” at 50 yards. I love Rugers for many many things, but laser like accuracy is not one of them. Anything from the good folk at Tikka (aka price point Sako) will shoot very very well! I have top of the line Annies but will shoot Outlaw .22 matches with my Tikka because it is nearly as accurate as my beloved Annis and with the synthetic stock, the T1x is tougher than pretty wood and will stand some inevitable bumps during PRS competition’s positional shoot stages.

I’m a tall gangly looking dude with a need for a good long LoP, but the T1x is pretty short for LoP.... Easily fixed with a Limbsaver recoil pad from a Tikka T3..... most parts and accessories from the T3x rifles are interchangable, so the T1x is easily modified with simple hand tools for bolt on accessories. The thick recoil pad, the 20 MOA Dip rail and some very pricey glass is the only thing I’ve done or likely ever will do to the T1x other than having adjusted the factory trigger pull down to around 1 pound. It already shoots exceptionally well right out of the box.

I had this same dilemma, though with the Ruger American Rimfire Target, as well as the Tikka and Ruger Precision Rimfire.

The more I researched, the more people pointed me to the CZ 452/455/457 series. The more I researched these CZs, the more I wanted one. I ended up buying a CZ 457, though only arriving in October.

If only between your two choices, I’d go for the Tikka (and I’m a big Ruger fan).
 
I went with the Ruger. Nothing else can be attached to my tripod with a $50 arca rail. Having a hoard of magazines and not having to drop over $600 on a Bravo to do what I want made the price difference no contest. If I just wanted to shoot off bags or a bipod I would have gone CZ or Tikka.

Yeah but you have to admit this is just awesome looking :) And it sure is fun to shoot

 
the one time i tried to get the 1/2 club with my tikka i missed with one bullet out of 25 twice. Take note though that was with cci sv in my opinion a gun that can be that accurate with cheap ammo im all in. Never owned a ruger except a 10/22 takedown that was not that accurate as expected being a semi auto and a take down. I own 3 tikka and they are all smooth in the bolt and shoot sub moa
 
The Tikka vs RPR thing has been asked before and the answer is still the same.

The odds of getting an accurate Tikka are much better than getting an accurate RPR in 22LR

But... then what?

You would have to get a tacticool stock for the Tikka for PRS, or you would need an accurate barrel for the RPR.

Since both rifles are similar in price... your initial costs are about the same

Then a new stock for the Tikka is about the same cost as a new barrel for the RPR.

So either way you will not be happy until you buy the rifle and then spend an additional $400 or so to get it right.

Before some RPR Fan jumps in to defend the accuracy of the RPR... I'll tell you a story about that.... A good buddy has one that couldn't hit the barn wall from the inside of the barn. He sent it to Ruger and the response was that Ruger makes no accuracy guarantee so he was out of luck, and promptly returned the rifle to him.

I have another buddy with a Tikka who is more than pleased... we all shoot together all the time.

Having said all that... my CZ452 is the most accurate of the bunch... but cool stock options are more limited for CZ than Tikka.

I want to shoot small things at up to 100 yards, kill some gophers and shoot grouse in the bean. I'm kinda torn because I think the Tikka might shoot better but the Ruger looks cooler, if that matters.

Which gun could consistently shoot golf balls at 100 yards with a decent enough scope?

Ultimately, it is barrels that determine your result. Factory barrels are.... factory barrels. If you wanted a new gen bolt rifle for field useage, then Tikka.. no questions

If you want accurate fire with the option of picking off small things at 200 to 300yds, then put a match barrel on one of your 10/22's. Overall costs will be much lower AND the results on target will be better.

Can certainly help with setting up your 10/22... and mine has proven to work very well against the "best" rimfires at LR.
