Buddy has some old 7.62 x 51 ball he uncovered from years ago. Can't remember when or where he got it and curious as to who made it. Personally I'm inclined to think it's Chinese but can't find anything to confirm yet.

Cardboard 20 rd (square) boxes with two caliber designations on it; 7,62 and .308. .308 is on a separate paper label over the original one. Has NATO circle/cross stamp on the box but not the cases that I can recall right now. F73-78, which I guess were lot numbers on the box/original label.
Mixed markings on the cases; all were marked 7,62, some with H0 and some with H1 in the same box. Opened a couple to confirm that the first wasn't just a box he mixed rounds in.

What is it?

Your scant info is pointing in the multiple directions of Taiwan, Singapore, or Portugal. Any info on materials, primer and/or case mouth seal colors, complete headstamp description?
 
Mostly because of the comma in 7,62 I had an inkling of Chinese production but that might not be a good indicator.

Headstamp was only 7,62 and H1 or H2.

I got some ammo... Has the Nato cross 2 numbers a dash and 2 numbers. But it's stamped FNM

H1 & HD 7.62 Headstamp ID
The origin of this Ammo has been the subject of several topics on this board and at ar15.com. It is usually marketed as Portugese. But the headstamp of H1 or HD with 7.62 at 6 oclock defies identification. Also it comes in repackaged 20 round carboard boxes marked .308 Win. It is very shiney clean ammo, and it shoots well, perhaps a bit hot, as it cycles my Fal at gas setting 6. The Ammo dealer that sold it last month as Portuguese, now calls it Malaysian. Some say it's actually from Singapore-made using American tooling. Federal law forbids foriegn made ammo, made on U.S. machinery to be sold in America To get around this illegality, it is advertised as Portugese, Malaysian or just "Imported"

No FNM on this stuff I could see, maybe under label on box? Must set things straight, headstamp is cal and either H0 or H1. Both within same box. Might actually be HD.

I understand China counterfeited some ammo. Owner can only recall he might have gotten it in late 80's or early 90's. Ammo is a bit dirty but hasn't likely seen good storage for 20+ years.
